5. The money that will be "saved" by cutting benefits will not go to help the deficit.

It will only make SS viable longer. Raising the cap would be a better solution for that. Since it has nothing to do with the deficit, it is only being used by the president as a bargaining chip. It's as if the president is saying, "If we screw SS recipients and federal retirees, will you be nice?" And the Republicans are laughing thinking "sure just like the last few times we screwed you over."
