suicides are a hard thing to "pin down" to a single cause.

as you can see, there is a questionable correlation between gun ownership rates and suicides (Japan has a significantly higher suicide rate than the U.S.). Also I think focusing on the instrument used rather than the underlying cause for suicide does the victims and their families great injustice

Lastly, never forget the laws of unintended consequences (this is speaking from personal experience). That person who would have shot themselves in the head now goes into their garage and turns on their car with the door closed- He dies, and so does everyone in the house when the carbon monoxide seeps through.
