you know what also keeps crime down with NFA machine guns, the fact that they cost 20 grand and that there are less than 300,000 of them. the NFA isn't anything special, all it did (After the 1986 ban) was affect economics to make machine guns impossible to own- therefore a defacto ban

that is why it won't work. Handgun bans are unpopular with the american electorate. If you think the NRA won't be able to run public ad campaigns that eat this alive you are kidding yourself. You can't defend this in a soundbite and thats what today's debates really are.
