The copy-paste had a hiccough; sometimes the 'c' key on my key-board fails to register, and the last thing I had done with it was checking that a hosted image registered properly for later posting. I was a bit surprised to see it pop up myself instead of the song.

The model is of a machine of the 50th Reconnaissance Squadron at Hickham Field in Hawaii, as it appeared in early summer of 1941; I finished it last weekend.

The 17D was the last version to use the original vertical tail surface; from the 17E on, the larger, more familiar fin and rudder were employed. the re-design was to give better stability and control at high altitudes, where the air is thinner.
