2. we used to have racist tracking in the usa...but it was dumped

mandatory tracking systems like that were deemed racist so have been largely dumped. along with that went things like shop, auto shop, anything to do with manual trades except as electives, home ec (OMG remember that...for the girls).

In those days tracking was also sexist, girls did not go to trade tech and boys were not allowed in home economics.
