I mean, even a full-blown nuclear war in the mid-'80s couldn't quite do that.
Global civilization having to be rebuilt from scratch, though, might not be so far-fetched, especially a couple of centuries from now if the global warming BAU scenario turns out to be reality(and, even worse, if all the possible feedbacks play out to their worst possible extent, which may not be at all likely but still possible); not exactly as likely as some would think, but still not something we can afford to ignore, IMHO(My money's more on 3-4*C by 2100).
I don't doubt things will change, though.....but the question is, when?
