I heard in a radio program that we have troops in the area around Syria waiting to be used if necessary.
"Leaving for Syria" is ambiguous especially when used by a kid leaving home and possibly really nervous about going. It could have meant that he was headed to Turkey on alert regarding Syria.
A normal person does not have to find out a secret to know that the US could become militarily involved in Syria if things continue to be violent there. It's just common sense.
The US, China and Europe depend on the flow of oil from the Middle East just to heat our houses in the winter. Violence and repression in the Middle East can mean very cold houses for the children and elderly in cold countries to the north of Syria.
