It's sad, but it's the truth. I view the the right-wing hate memes as a form of psychological virus. Viruses that attack the body change and weaken the body. Psychological viruses do the same thing to a persons thought processes and infect their attitudes and ultimately their choices.
We all become slightly different people over time based on the cumulative effect of our daily experience. Right-wing memes organize and exploit daily experience in a way that emphasizes a person's sense of victimization and closes off the normal experience of empathy. People under that influence can change profoundly. Intelligent people are in no way immune to this kind of disorder.
I'm sorry for your loss. Know that you are not alone.
