I would guess that dressage ranks second to polo in the expenses department. I lived on a farm whose owners, a family, were all dressage riders. They owned five thoroughbreds, and other horses for training. It was a full-time job for the mom, whose passion it was.

The equipment, the tack, the food, the maintenance, the grooming, and the medical expenses of the horses were astronomically expensive, as was the riding gear.
