27. I don't recall being told we were winning Vietnam. It was all over the news...

that we were NOT winning. That was the first war where pictures of our soldiers came into our living rooms, and we saw firsthand the horror of war.

A free press doesn't guarantee anything, since they can be fooled, like the public. But it's also true that they usu. ferret out the truth and are pretty good at presenting at the least opposite stories. For example, you could find on TV stories about how there were no WMDs in Iraq, before we invaded. If you were looking for them, and ifyou believed them.
