Counties like Fairfield in CT are indeed home to wealthy towns like Greenwich and New Canaan, but Fairfield County is also home to Bridgeport, the largest city in the county and it's a poor and ethnically diverse city.
So how did the towns of the so called "gold coast" Fairfield County vote:
New Canaan, one of the super wealthiest went 65% for Romney and 63% for the awful McMahon.
Greenwich, another super wealthy town went handily for Romney

Darien: Romney won it two to one.

Is this true of others of the wealthiest counties? Yes.
