(78 posts)To my conservative friends, let us work together:
To my pro-life friends, let's make contraceptive education available to everyone and let us work together so that all babies, infants, and toddlers have ease of access to comprehensive medical care.
To my pro-gun friends, let us work together to de-stigmatize mental healthcare and expand access to such services.
To my "Support the Troops" friends, let us work together to expand both physical and mental healthcare for our veterans and our troops, returning home and those serving abroad. Let war always be the last, somber course of action.
To my friends at risk of foreclosure: let us reinstate Glass-Steigel and expand Dodd-Frank so that financial institutions cannot run rampant with our money, again.
To my pro-oil friends: let us invest in renewable energy sources and a smart electricity grid so that not only will the United States be protected against foreign oil influence, but each one of us and our houses will be protected against large-scale blackouts and temporary inoperable neighborhood gas stations.
To my budget-hawk friends: I agree with you! In order to get our deficit under control we need to set in place a comprehensive audit of our budget, recognize with unbiased eyes waste and redundancies that won't affect the quality or services provided, and understand that taxes are how we pay for things and those who are sharing less of the burden than others should pay equally.
To my friends worried about jobs: We need to bring outsourced jobs back to the States and make sure those companies are paying all their employees fairly. Not only should our products be stamped with "Proudly made in the U.S.A." but also "Proudly made in" Delaware, Oklahoma, Alabama, Nebraska, or whichever state that product comes from.
To my religious friends: let us work together to help the poor, the disenfranchised, the sick, and those the least among us. Your faith to you is grander than politics so don't get bogged down in the inner machinations of the country, but work compassionately with olive branch extended, not the sword.
To my Republican friends: Let us work together to make our voices ring during times of election. Let us reinstate and strengthen McCain-Feingold, call for a Constitutional Amendment declaring 'natural citizenship' and reversing Citizens United. Let each voting district own their own voting machines instead of a private company and make sure the source code is open access. Nobody should be waiting in line for over an hour. Let us make it an actual constitutional right to be allowed to vote for President and Vice President.
To all my friends: We are a nation of big ideas as well as freedom and individualism. We should not lose sight of the vision for a grander America. Those services we want to use we should have and those we don't use should be there if we decide to. It's not about the next bill, the next election, or the next 4 years, it's about what kind of country and responsibilities we want to pass on to our children. And always we should ask if our actions help expand our individual freedom.
America can be greater but only if we all work together.
