i.e. teachers' unions, their tenure, seniority and due process rights, yada, yada, yada, standing in the way of ....ahem.... "progress".

So I don't get the "shock and awe" reaction to this on DU.

The WH constantly plays on this same mythology about teachers and it seems to resonate in the reptilian brain.

GOP Fla barbarians hitched this tried and tested gambit to the old homophobia/child molestation/ thing in a desperate appeal to the truly brain-dead. The...erhhh....uhhh..... *undecideds*.

Don't underestimate it as a tactic. It's powerful stuff.

But thanks, teacher-bashers, for paving the way!!
