1. Misleading e-mail on straight party voting

There is an e-mail from the 2008 campaign dealing with North Carolina law that is circulating in my part of Texas. This e-mail tells voters that they have to separately vote for the presidential race in addition to voting a straight party ticket. This e-mail is based on North Carolina law where one can not vote for POTUS on a straight party ticket and has to vote for POTUS separately. Here is the Snopes debunking of this rumor http://www.snopes.com/politics/ballot/straightticket.asp

In Texas and most other states, a vote for a straight party ticket is a vote for the office of POTUS, i.e. President Obama. In Texas on some machines if you vote a straight party ticket and then vote in the presidential race, you will cancel your vote for POTUS because this is called emphasis voting. Please check your selections at the end before you cast your ballot and make sure that this rumor does not mess you up.
