most of the gm corn grown in the us is used for animal feed and industrial uses.

sweet corn is 1% of the us corn crop, & gm sweet corn had previously been only 3% of that.

gm corn in the food supply was previously limited to food products such as corn starch, etc.

Monsanto's corn is not the first genetically modified sweet corn to hit U.S. retail stores — Syngenta's version has been available for a decade and makes up about 3 percent of the market, according to the company — but it's the most controversial.
