But there was also:
1. Mostly Republican transplants from the North coming in (the Bushes are a good example).
2. The growth of white middle-class suburbs in Texas, providing a large conservative social base.
3. The mobilization of the religious right in Texas (and other parts of the country)
4. Ranchers and oilmen in West Texas being really conservative and influencing that culture
5. The Texas Democratic Party going downhill., in general.
Would you say that these are all big reasons?
