In reply to the discussion: Discrimination? Australian men can’t sit next to unaccompanied minors [View all]4th law of robotics
(6,801 posts)50. Every bigot can cite stats
as to why they aren't really a bigot.
Certain groups are over represented in jail. Even after accounting for differences in incarceration rates the discrepancy remains.
Do you feel the klan is right?
Also most teachers that molest kids these days seem to be female. Perhaps females have no place teaching children.
The vast majority of child-abuse (~80%) is perpetrated by a parent (often a single mother). Clearly if they're just going by the stats and want kids to be safe they will not let parents sit next to their kids. Those are the stats. They cannot be disputed.

OP
If the specific minor had said "I don't want to sit next to a man", that would be one thing.

What's really funny is that some Airlines now are making families pay extra to sit together

Yes I'm sure it's very traumatic to the women to reinforce the notion that they never hurt kids

Honestly anything that imposes a cultural gendered stereotype on me traumatizes me.

This isn't about "comfort." A child who is molested experiences a far greater trauma

Fine. All us molesters can be escorted to first class while you do your protective duties.

Protection from whom? You want to move this person into a seat next to a 12 year old boy?

But why would they do it in a plane, right there in public, even if they are pedophiles?

All good points too. It is a crazy policy. Even pedophiles, who cannot generally stop their behavior

Women can molest, too. I think the airlines really just want female passengers to babysit.
