On the other hand, it's possible that some faction of the GOP might make it impossible for him to stay in as a candidate. Another scandal, introduced by the Republicans, could force Romney's had. The result would be the same, though...disgrace for the Republicans.

There is also option 5, that he releases the returns and they show he did pay taxes.
