And Romney dares not release fake ones or the IRS will take notice. No one other than Rmoney has legitimate access to the returns except for the IRS, unless and until he agrees to release them. Reid would automatically regard anything from a source other than Rmoney as potentially fake for that reason.

No loss for Reid here. Rmoney loses many ways.

1. He releases the returns. Even if they are perfectly legal, people are going to be pissed that he paid far less on a percentage basis than average people pay, which is the best possible outcome here. If they are shady and reflect offshore accounts or any kind of sleaze, even worse.

2. He doesn't release the returns. Then anyone is allowed any wild guess as to what might be in them. After all, proving any wild allegation wrong is as simple as could be.
