(18,998 posts)But there are many differences between them...and to this specific point the goals are not the same....the civil rights movement had an achievable goal of equal rights not the abolishment of racism...cause the latter is what that long arch of history is about...changing peoples minds and hearts not confrontation with them over their views.
And that was the meaning of "keep your eyes on the prize"...and their prize was equality not the destruction of an idea through confrontation and political pressure...they did not go after that impossible and foolish goal...and they won.
Some one has convinced someone that we should attack bigotry...call them out and subject them to political pressure...and what that has accomplished is to make a fight where there should be none and make us and them choose up sides...and many of the church goers saw this as an attack on religion and went for the sandwich.
Now they are firmly locked in on that side and you will play hell trying to win the hearts and minds that way.
