In that way he was true to a version of reality as he viewed it - religious fundamentalism of any kind is oppressive enough to oppose. The problem is that he elided Iraq with the collusion between religion and state in other nations in the region.
It's also strange that he was so pro war on terror when he ripped into Kissinger for his collusion with that far right fascist, Pinochet.
But what his opinions show me is that people who write and analyze various events in the world aren't always correct, or I don't always agree with them. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
It doesn't work to put any human on a pedestal because that person will inevitably disappoint. because we're all human.
