Cheryl Describes Meeting Mitt Romney

Published on Sep 22, 2012

Cheryl, a teacher from Colorado, was asked to participate in a roundtable with Mitt Romney. In this video she shares her impression after talking with him and how her views on education are different than Mitt Romney's.

As Cheryl shares:

"He said, "...I understand there's a teacher here today, which one of you is the teacher?" So I raised my hand thinking that's a good thing; he's interested in education. But it wasn't a good thing."

2. "I didn't ask you a question." I audibly gasped when she quoted him on that.

He truly is out of touch, and inhuman. Think of every CEO asshole you've ever worked for. That's him.

and after thinking about it, realized you were right.

That fucker is not human.

I thought "what a shitty thing to say to someone" - damn, he's cruel. That's the entitled asshole who made that poor dog ride on the car roof. Bah. Wouldn't want his karma for all the money in the world.

He doesn't want to get in touch. He expects others to suck up to him.

5. I've lived in Colorado all my life.

One of the hardest part of the states to reach by road is the northwest and the southwest side of Colorado.

I have a friend that commuted to Denver from Craig once a week. Six hours each way. For specialized therapy.

10. This is what makes me wonder if the man has some kind of deficiency.

Cutting this woman off and saying "I didn't ask you a question". . .tripping family members at the Rom-lympics. . .the Libya fiasco. . .I really have to wonder about someone who doesn't understand on a TRANSACTIONAL level, even, that an empathic response to other people will help your chances with other people, whether you are just a person in the working world or are running for President.

I'm not sure whether it's a social deficiency, or perhaps the fact that Romney never had to LEARN these things to get ahead b/c he was born a toe-tap from home base.

14. I don't think so. Not in the true sense. This is, sadly, learned behavior.

Not that it isn't deep seated and hard to change. But part of this particular characterological issue is that you don't think it's you. You think it's everyone else.

He thinks everyone probably grew up learning from private tutors paid for by their parents.

18. Mitt Romney is a sad and tragic

character because he is so out of touch with regular people. Romney and his ideology would be a disaster for this country or should I say a repeated disaster a la George Bush. The story this teacher told about meeting him in a political campaign setting, is a very powerful and insightful testimony of the shallowness of this man.

36. So very right in your evaluation of Romney.

Furthermore, as a female part of the Viet Nam generation, with a brother and many friends who served, and contributed what support I was able to them personally, while opposing the .war.. in no way was anyone who supported that war, but sidled out of serving as Mitt did was treated with anymore than the most contempt.

25. there is a bug in his program

Nobody, and especially a politician, should EVER talk to another human being like that. "I didn't ask you a question"--OMG.

And I think another point she made, about how Romney just couldn't understand small-town life, is important. I have no doubt that he looks down on people in small towns, but even more importantly, he has no motivation to care about their particular concerns, and so he won't. To him that would just be sound business thinking--why waste time on people who can't do something for you, and they simply don't have the bucks to make them worth his energy.

No difference. The Donald didn't impress me, and I told him so as a young woman.

31. Major political meets (briefly) JFK and Ted Kennedy.

When very very young, David Lawrence as Pa GOV and Raymond Shafer (Republican) governor, later. Both Kennedys took a moment to show some personal interest. This has been true of any Democratic political figure I've ever met. Republicans tend to pump your hand and look through you.

it sounds good on paper maybe, but in reality it's an Animal Farm like title.

I don't think Romney could have handled the situation worse if he tried. He stopped just short of blasting her with seltzer and giving her a buzzer hand shake.
