As I thought: Sears is selling Lands End.

I was saddened when Sears bought Lands End, one of my favorite stores.
( for 1.86 billion, btw)

Then, this Jan. I was able to buy a gorgeous wool/cotton sweater at Land's End for 13.00 including shipping,
the same sweater I had paid 50.00 for a year ago, ( so I got 2 and put them away for future)
and I commented here in this group that Lands End was losing money and would be sold.
Lands End never used to have markdowns that steep.

Today's news:
"In its bid to shave costs,Sears is reported to be shopping its Landís End brand, but thereís a catch:
The retailer wants to still sell Landís End items in its stores.
Landís End is being shopped to private equity firms with a $2 billion price tag, The New York Post reports.
The report says Sears wants the buyer to agree to keep licensing Landsí End products to Sears, while pursuing growth elsewhere, possibly in Europe. "

I don't think that will help Sears stay solvent, by the way.

1. To restore the allure of the brand I think they really need to get it out of Sears/Kmart stores. n/t

2. Land's End quality has diminished over the past few years... I hope they survive...

(but I am skeptical--all these mergers followed by relatively quick divestitures are like a death nail)...

For that matter, I hope that Sears survives too.

3. I never knew they owned the company

Lands End is upscale, Sears is just above Wal-Mart these days.

Lands' End Employees Say Tricked Into Seeing Giuliani

Employee: 'Not All Lands' End Employees Support Bush'

Posted: 11:19 pm CDT September 28, 2004Updated: 11:54 am CDT September 29, 2004

DODGEVILLE, Wis. -- Some Lands' End employees said Tuesday they were hoodwinked into attending a speech by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani at the company's Dodgeville plant.

Viewers said the company told them Giuliani's speech would be motivational in nature. Instead it was a political speach supporting President George W. Bush for reelection

6. Land's End

No big loss as far as I am concerned. I bought something from them online not long ago and the quality was pathetic. Never again I swore.
