Beating Kesha Rogers - Congressional District 22

Email I was forwarded by my Precinct Chair (south of Houston - precinct 60 now)

By Chairman Steve Brown

What if I told you that a candidate in the Democratic Primary would like to have President Barack Obama impeached? What if I told you that she’s a thirty-something, photogenic and articulate African American woman? Finally, what if I told you that two years ago she actually won the Democratic nomination for Congressional District 22, and went on to enter the general election by viciously attacking our President? If you are not already aware of this person, then let me introduce you to Kesha Rogers.

Rogers is a member of a political cult led by Lyndon LaRouche. LaRouche’s main goal is to elect Members of Congress who will advocate for the colonization of the moon, the impeachment of President Obama, and the restoration of an obscure 1933 banking standard.

Over the years, this cult has joined forces with a number of unseemly and racially divisive organizations, like the Ku Klux Klan.

In fact, LaRouche himself has been known to spew anti-sematic and racist views throughout the years. In newsletters he wrote in 1973 and 1974, he characterizes Black women as “sadistic,” and young Black men as “zombie killers out of control.” LaRouche’s racism isn’t just limited to African Americans. He refers to Asians as “subhuman” and Hispanics as “miserable.”

However, he saves a great deal of his venom to vilify President Barack Obama. In 2009 he compared Pres. Obama to a trained monkey by stating, “And we have a dictatorship in the United States…under a President who doesn't have much conscience, because he doesn't have any brains. He's trained to talk like a trained monkey or something out of a mechanical zoo."

Rogers has adopted this type of hate speech in her current campaign. In a recent YouTube clip on her website, she suggests that Pres. Obama’s doctor should, “administer some pentothal of sodium” on him. Pentothal is an ingredient commonly used in lethal injections.

I hope and trust that the appropriate federal authorities are keeping a close watch on this cult, as any insinuations about the assassination of our President should be handled with the utmost urgency and seriousness, especially by those who not only wish him harm but hold other dangerous ideas.

As Democrats, we cannot afford for anyone representing LaRouche’s cult to be a nominee on the Democratic ballot. A Rogers’ victory on May 29 is not only a distraction for those of us working hard to re-elect President Obama, but it also hurts our local, qualified candidates who need a surge in straight-ticket voting during the general election. Everyone, from judicial candidates to state representatives, should be concerned about sharing the Democratic slate with Rogers.

Voters in Congressional District 22 have a choice. KP George is running against Rogers on a platform to work with Pres. Obama on improving the economy, keeping our shores safe and providing health care for all. KP is the only Democrat in this race, and he’s ready to serve.

So, why would Rogers choose to align with LaRouche? I can’t say. Perhaps you should ask her if you ever meet her.

But as Texas Democrats, we must develop protocols to ensure that “Democratic” imposters don’t find their way on our ballot. By doing so, we protect the integrity of the Democratic primary while also ensuring that our voters don’t become fooled by candidates that don’t represent their interests.

In the meantime, we can use this election to send a message to any future LaRouche candidate by convincingly defeating Kesha Rogers on May 29, 2012. Our President would appreciate it.

Steve Brown is the Chairman of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party.

1. I live in Fort Bend County and I am worried about Kesha

I live in Fort Bend County and was at the County Executive Committee meeting when they drew for Ballots. Kesha is a nut case and scares me. I am a precinct chair and was happy to vote to support KP George against Kesha

2. I moved to Texas about 8 years ago and really don't

follow the local races. But a few months ago someone posted in this forum about the LaRouche's so I thought I'd put this up for anyone else who didn't see it. I was a precinct chair in 2008 when I volunteered for the campaign. I usually just vote straight dem but now I have to pay attention so I don't inadvertently vote for someone like this.

6. What is KPs plan?

Does KP have a plan to win this? Or not?
With a low turn out, it shouldnt be too hard to get to those who plan to vote in the primary.

7. Sure -

he's got his website and the Fort Bend democrats are supporting him: http://www.kpgeorge.com/Mar25.php ... the word is out locally now about Ms. Rogers and her intentions (she's crystal clear - it says on her campaign signs that she wants to impeach Obama). I think there's a good chance he'll prevail.

However, going up against Pete Olson in the general is a huge task of course.

8. Olson has a tea party primary opponent

A tea party lady named Carleson is running against Olson in the GOP primary. She has a number of signs up and have won a couple of straw polls (done by tea party types). KP's best hope is for Carleson to win the GOP primary

KP's other hope is to increase turnout out among Hispanic and Asian voters. These groups have under voted in past elections and this race could be close if these groups would turn out.

Look, I've been voting Dem even before inmate Tom DeLay was in 22.

I thought Richard Morrison's campaign was the most exciting parade ever, but Tom was still going strong.
When Lampson won, we were all excited till he got a little disconnected from local Dems but he was still there fighting for issues that concerned us. In all these good Dems campaign, I've never seen the youth support that KP has.

KP's plan is to run on anti-corruption (big surprise--Delay District), conservative Dem, and very grassroots platform. If I had to guess KP has the largest youth based campaign team in the US, but at least for sure in TX. Good social networking interaction too:
I think if we win the immigrant & Asian vote, KP's going to take it from Pete. Hopefully extremist teabagger Carlson wins though...would make his job much easier.

15. Fort Bend is better organized

Back in 2008, most of the campaigning in Fort Bend County was done by one of the clubs and party was not active at all. The club in question raised almost $90,000 and President Obama came with 4,000 or so votes of carrying the county.

In 2010, Steve Brown was elected chair of the party and he has done a great job of unifying the party and recruiting candidates. Unfortunately, Kesha Rogers won the Democratic primary in the same election where Steve was elected. The party was simply not ready to deal with Kesha for the 2010 primary back in March of 2010 and no one knew that she was a LaRouchie or that she was crazy.

KP is a good candidate and should do well against Kesha. Now we know that she is a crazy lady and wants to impeach President Obama and this should make a difference.. Kesha can only win the primary if people do not know what she stands for which is why she is so upset with Steve Brown. The party is getting the word out about Kesha and she is not happy about people learning the truth about her positions.

KP should be able to beat Kesha in the primary. KP has some good young interns who are very active. The party has recruited some good candidates for other countrywide races and will hopefully pick up some county wide seats. CD22 is gerrymandered to be a very safe GOP seat but if Hispanic and Asian turnout is up and GOP turnout is down due to republicans mot being happy with the top of the ticket, KP may have a chance in the general election. As part of the GOP gerrymandering, some strong Democratic precincts in Fort Bend County are not in CD22 and CD22 includes some safe GOP sections. Despite, KP has a chance in the general election.

Kesha has the first position on the ballot in Fort Bend County and this may help her somewhat. Again, Steve Brown and the Party are doing their best to get the word out to voters about Kesha and her crazy positions.

I plan to get my hands on some kp and anti-kesha signs and put them up for the party.

Also, I just heard about this:

19. Here is the Burnt Orange Report story about Kesha's "cartoon"

Here is a link to the report in the Burnt Orange Report concerning Kesha's cartoon where she called for the execution of President Obama http://www.burntorangereport.com/diary/12227/kesha-rogers-calls-for-execution-of-president-in-campaign-video

An inflammatory video produced by Kesha Rogers for US Congress (TX-22), calls for the execution of President Barack Obama. More specifically, the lyric in question is "His doctor should administer some pentothal of sodium". Sodium Pentothal is a chemical used in lethal injections. Watch the video below and judge for yourself. The song is styled off of Mary Poppin's "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."

You can watch the video by going to the link. This is what passes for humor among the LaRouchies

I know Steve Brown and have worked with him. I am a precinct chair and the Obama voter protection attorney for Fort Bend County. It seems that Kesha is mad at Steve http://kesharogers.com/node/125 Steve is doing a great job of educating the voters as to the nuttiness that is Kesha and the LaRouchies.

We have a meeting for one of the Democratic clubs tomorrow and I imagine that we will be laughing about Kesha's latest rant. I am going to congratulate Steve Brown on the great job that he is doing here.

I just became friends with him on FB recently to support his efforts here in the 22nd. I am in Brazoria County and I'm sure will be volunteering again this fall (will have time to phone bank at least - my kids will both be in school all day). The last thing we need is a so-called democrat putting up "Impeach Obama" signs - I was livid when I saw those.

12. I will pass on your support

Steve is a good guy and has done a great deal to help organize the Democratic Party in Fort Bend County. In 2010, Kesha had won the primary before he even took office as county party chair. As a result of an idiot like Kesha being on the ballot, we could not in good faith encourage Democrats to vote a straight party ticket in Fort Bend County. We are doing our best to deal with Kesha this time around. Sunlight is a good disinfectant and Kesha's insane positions can not stand up to the sunlight.

20. Kesha Rogers and the LaRouchies have a funny definition of anti-Semitism

Last edited Wed May 16, 2012, 07:54 PM - Edit history (1)

LaRouche is a major anti-Semite and blames Jews and Jewish financial interests for the world’s problems. LaRouche has sued the ADL twice once in the 1970s and again in the 1980s for pointing out that LaRouche is an anti-Semite and the ADL won both cases.

Kesha is upset with the signs that point out that she is not a Democrat and is call KP George an anti-Semite. http://twitter.com/#!/KeshaRogersTX22/status/202542635901124609/photo/1

My opponent's idea of debating the issues is to use libel. Really KP? Anti-Semite? You should be ashamed #electkpgeorge

I voted this morning and was pleased to see a large number of Kesha Rogers is not a Democrat signs at the early voting location where I voted. My youngest child voted for the first time this morning and she was amazed at the Kesha signs where she calls for the impeachment of President Obama. 23. Kesha is upset with the signs

Susan Bankston does the Juanita Jean blog and has been having fun with Kesha. Kesha has been attempting to hide the "Kesha Rogers is not a Democrat" signs http://juanitajean.com/2012/05/20/kesha-rogers-is-a-silly-little-girl/

I told you about the signs her opponent had made that say she’s not a Democrat. I wanted them to say that she’s the Fairy Princess of Cultville, but he wouldn’t do that.

Little Bubba went up to vote last Friday and saw that Kesha and her Band of Bozos had placed her poll signs in an odd position. She moved her signs to place them directly in front our our signs.

The signs about Kesha not being a Democrat has upset Kesha. I am not sure why Kesha is upset. Kesha's own signs state that she is for the impeachment of President Obama and so most people are not going to confuse Kesha with being a democrat. This race is going to be fun to watch and Susan is having a great deal of fun with Kesha's antics.

25. Phone banking

After the end of the Fort Bend County Executive Committee last night, we got 40+ precinct chairs and other Democrats busy calling voters to warn them about Kesha. Voters who know about Kesha will not vote for her. In 2010, few people knew about Kesha and her platform of impeaching President Obama. The voters were called last night did know who Kesha was and were upset with Kesha's crazy platform of impeaching President Obama and are going to vote against her.

In 2010, most of Kesha's signs were touting her defense of NASA and so few people knew about her interesting and strange views. Hopefully, we can get the word out about how Kesha's platform and let the voters do the rest.

but I'll check KT's facebook page again. I have kids, dogs, and a husband who works all the time so it is not as easy to get out as you would think. But, if I were able to make some calls during the day (especially from home) I may be able to help out. I did do some in 2008 for Obama - even door to door which was much easier when my youngest was still in a stroller

it's near the Kroger shopping center on 518 (off 288). Sort of on the edge of the parking area - not really near any particular store. Big pictures of Obama w/Hitler mustache like they have on their PAC website. Hopefully Kesha's loss in the primary will dampen their spirits a little.

31. Here is an interview with Kesha' husband/campaign manager

Kesha's campaign manager is also her husband. Here is an interesting interview where he calls Steve Brown a party hack and accuse the Democrats of dirty tricks. http://kesharogers.com/node/133 Kesha's husband/campaign manager has very interesting views of the political process.

In 2010, Kesha's signs talked about saving NASA and most people did not know about her desire to impeach President Obama. Most of the people who are regular voters in the Democratic primary are not likely to be swayed by Kesha's message. The Fort Bend Democratic Party has done a couple of mailings and some phone banking to warn people who have voted in more than one Democratic primary about Kesha. Hopefully we have gotten the message out. Kesha's signs should hurt her case with regular democratic voters who are the main people who vote in the primary.

I will be there after I finish dropping off the computer and election results from my polling station Hopefully, I am hoping for a line of voters at 7 PM but would not mind having a early night and being able to get to the party. 35. Candidate Is the Issue in a Democratic Race

This story made the NY Times y'all. Apparently published on Friday but I didn't see it until today -

The Texas Tribune (in the NYT)
Candidate Is the Issue in a Democratic Race
By REEVE HAMILTON
Published: March 25, 2012

HOUSTON — Both candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for the Congressional seat held for two decades by Tom DeLay, the former House majority leader, are unusual.

Kesha Rogers is best known for campaigning for President Obama’s impeachment.

Her opponent, K. P. George, is running on a more establishment-friendly platform.

One of them, K. P. George, has a background that makes him an improbable candidate — he was born in a village in India that still has no electricity or running water. For his opponent, Kesha Rogers, it is her political positions that stand out — she is best known for demanding President Obama’s impeachment.

In light of Ms. Rogers’s candidacy, the Fort Bend County Democratic Party’s executive committee has issued a rare primary endorsement, backing Mr. George in the 22nd District.

“If I can figure out what that silver bullet is to make sure that she is not on my slate after May, then I’ll definitely do that,” said Steve Brown, chairman of the Fort Bend Democratic Party. “I don’t think the endorsement alone is going to do it. It’s going to take work.” ...

39. Kesha has no chance against Pete Olson

KP is a nice guy but was a weak candidate. We tried to recruit a strong candidate for this slot but the district is too gerrymandered for a Democrat to have a chance. The current CD22 went 60% for McCain in 2008.

Fort Bend County went for KP George but Kesha won in Harris county and Brazoria counties. Steven Brown and the Fort Bend Democrats did an okay job of getting the word out about Kesha. Harris County had other issues and did not take as strong as position as the Fort Bend Democratic Party did with Kesha.

Kesha has no chance of being elected to congress. She underperformed the other Democrats on the ballot in Fort Bend County in 2010 races by 10% because a large number of Democrats split their vote to vote against Kesha and the same will occur this time.

how did your day go as election judge? The only time I was ever involved was during the 2008 primary. I served as co-captain for Precinct 58 and worked the caucus, etc. Really interesting and glad I did it. 41. It was tiring but we had no problems

We had 91 Democratic voters and the republican side had over 400 voters. We had no trouble other that some technical glitches hooking up the voter database. My 20 year old youngest child was a clerk and did a great job.

At the end of the night, we were checking the ids of republican voters to make sure that they were at the right polling places so that they did not wait in line and miss their chance to vote. The GOP election judge really appreciated our help here and we help a couple of republican voters so that they had time to get to their proper polling place. We had no line and the republicans had a decent size line at this time and it was the right thing to do.

42. That is the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

A Republican would have done anything to discourage that potential voter, (particularly if they don't look like a Repug), from voting. Democrats believe everyone should register and vote.

43. That is the premise of Democratic Voter Protection operations

When I am volunteering as a voter protection lawyer, the only concern is protecting the vote. We do not care who the voter is supporting. The important think is that they get to vote. The Kerry Edwards voter protection training made a big deal about this in 2004 and this was also an important value for the Obama Voter Protection team in 2008

45. I'm almost tempted to move to TX-22 and run against Kesha myself

I may be batshit crazy at times, but at least with me you know what you're getting.

Kesha might call herself an FDR Democrat, but we all know she's really a WTF Democrat.

44. Some additional numbers

This is an excerpt from an e-mail from Susan Bankston (aka Juanita Jean):

....we beat her in Fort Bend County. In Brazoria County, she won with 57% of the vote. In Harris County, she won with 62% of the vote. However, in Fort Bend County, she lost badly with only 44% of the vote.

KP never really worked with the other counties. The Fort Bend Democrats worked hard to keep this race close and we were somewhat successful here thanks to the efforts of Steve Brown and the other leaders in the party.

Kesha has no chance in the general election against Pete Olson. In 2010, Kesha got 36% of the Fort Bend County vote but did not break 30% for the entire district. We had several candidates in 2010 get 47% of the Fort Bend County vote in 2010 which means that Kesha under-performed Fort Bend County Democrats in 2010 by 10% or so. President Obama got 90%+ of the vote in Fort Bend County in the Democratic primary yesterday. There was a great deal of split part voting in 2010 and there will be more of this in 2012 due to Kesha.

I and others tried to recruit a stronger candidate for this race but the demographics are simply too bad for any Democrat to want to run against Pete Olson in the Texas 22nd Congressional District. Again, McCain won this district in 2008 with 60% of the vote. Kesha won yesterday due to low information voters in other counties who did not know who they were voting for. KP's defeat is not any sort of referendum on President Obama and is more of a referendum on what a weak candidate KP George was in this race and the mistake he made in not campaigning in the entire district.

The Fort Bend Democrats have recruited a good slate of candidates for the upcoming general election and we will not let Kesha slow us down,

46. New Jersey LaRouchie was held to 10% of the Vote

One of Kesha's fellow slate of crazy people was held to 10% of the vote in New Jersey. That district is actually somewhat competitive.

I wonder if Kesha can break 30% in the general election against Pete Olson.

47. Thread on General Discussion about this primary

There is a thread on one of the other forums about this primary mess http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002809692 A great deal was done to keep Kesha from winning and it is sad that these efforts were not sufficient.

BTW Kesha was not allowed to speak at one of the caucuses at the Democratic Convention last weekend. I am glad that she was kicked out of the labor caucus

49. Current position is to simply ignore Kesha

Kesha has no chance of winning the CD22. If this seat was competitive, then the Democrats could have recruited a real candidate who could have actually raised some funds. I had talked to one candidate who consulted with some good professional advisers who told him not to run. That was good advise that I could not argue with. KP was a really bad candidate and KP was in way above his head in this race. Neither KP nor Kesha have a chance of winning this race against Pete Olson in the current configuration for this district.

Ignoring Kesha will allow us to concentrate on getting straight ticket voting up in Fort Bend County and trying to win some county races where the Democratic candidate has a change. A very democratic section of Fort Bend County was put in CD9 for Al Green and the county as a whole is competitive for Democratic candidates and President Obama. The party is in effect going to pretend that Kesha does not exist and will focus on upping the number of straight party voters and helping real democrats win in Fort Bend County. Luckily, it will be really easy to ignore Kesha and her fellow cult members.

TBF-what are you going to do in Brazoria county?

50. Are there any third-party candidates in the race?

In the past, I have avoided marking a straight party ballot for one simple reason:

If there is a race where there is no Democrat for a particular office, and the choices are between a Republican or a third-party candidate then in those instances I will vote for the third-party candidate so that the Republican will know that I am opposed to them.

Marking a straight party ballot doesn't give me the opportunity to expression my opposition to the Republican running for that specific office. In addition, if the race is for a statewide office and that candidate receives 5% or more of the total vote then that party is automatically included on the ballot in the following election (I may be off on some of the details).

51. I never vote a straight party ticket

I agree. I never vote a straight party ticket for many of the same reasons. I will not be voting for Kesha in this election. However from a party standpoint, we can not let Kesha being on the ballot stop the party from getting out the vote and getting base voters to vote for the party on a straight party basis.

If we tell voters to vote for all democrats other than Kesha, then we will have voters get confused and not vote for Fredericka or Tanya (Fredericka Petry and Tanya Watson are two very strong Democratic candidates for district judge races in Fort Bend County). It is safer to ignore Kesha even is she gets a few more votes from people who find her positions stupid and repugnant.. Kesha has taken up too much time and attention already. The Texas Democratic Party has already passed a resolutions to the effect that Texas Democrats can ignore Kesha and exclude her from our events and that is sufficient.

Kesha is not going to win the Texas CD 22 even if Pete Olson is found with a dead girl or live boy in his bed. Houston is an expensive media market and Kesha lacks the resources to wage a competitive campaign. Olson will not bother debating Kesha and she will be ignored by the media. Kesha may break 30% or 40% in this race and that is an improvement over the 29% she got in 2010 but she will not be a factor in this race.

52. Dunno Gothmag,

I haven't seen/heard anything about it lately but I haven't been to any official meetings. Will likely do so in the fall when the kids are back in school. I can tell you my personal plan is to ignore her.
