Submission Thread for January Photo Contest

The theme for the January 2013 Photo Contest will be: Lost or Discarded Items.

Lost or discarded items are objects people have dropped/lost while out. Things people have thrown away. Things you see on the street and other places like shoes, toys, furniture, etc.. You may even have your own idea about what is lost or discarded. Go for it!


Submissions will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 16th and end Saturday afternoon, January 19th - or until we reach 30 entries. Whichever comes first. If we do not get 30 entries the number of submissions received will be divided into 3 preliminary threads and voting will proceed as usual. Prelims will begin shortly after submissions are closed. Prelims will last 72 hours. The Final will be posted shortly after Prelims close and will also run for 72 hours. I'll post the results shortly after that.


Only one entry per person. You need to post your entry in the submission thread started by the host of a contest/challenge. Please be sure to include a "Title" for your photograph in the Subject line of your post. The submission thread is for photo entries only, no comments. The Host will usually start a separate thread just for comments.

Please do not use frames, except for a 10 pixel black frame to define white backgrounds.

Post-processing is permitted in the same tradition as processing techniques of print photography. Host can make exceptions.

The contest host may alter the written rules at the beginning of their contest, and is the final arbiter of the rules and any issues that may arise.

The contest host may not enter their own photo contest, but may choose the theme in any manner they decide. (The quarterly seasonal contests are an exception to that rule, and the host may enter those contests.)

The winner of the contest agrees to host the next month's contest (or recruit someone else to host the contest). For seasonal contests, winner agrees to be available to assist in hosting the next seasonal contest, should the hosts require such assistance.

CONTEST LICENSE

An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph for this contest, allows its use for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted.

An entrant can disclaim this Contest License and retain all rights to the photograph. If an entrant wishes to disclaim the Contest License they must include the following statement in the post containing their photograph; "I disclaim the Contest License, and reserve all rights to my photograph" Any photograph submitted by an entrant with this disclaimer statement can not be used to publicize/commemorate future contests

About entries:

Entries can be in Color or Black & White. No Sepia. No Infrared. No HDR. I will allow Focal B&W. Focal B&W is a B&W photo with a splash of well placed color - for dramatic/artistic effect.

Entries should adhere to the Pixel/File size rule. ( "no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 250K in file size" ) I will allow some wiggle room on file size but not on dimensions.
