3. I play that. Just not at those tempi

The pianos I have access to lack enough resonance to take the beginning that slow. My poor fingers can't handle the flourish before the reprise anywhere's near that fast.

I rate the whole performance rather muted.

Saw Miroslav Kultyshev play it for the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition. Amazing performance with him dripping sweat at the end. He broke the piano.

4. One of my favorite composers.

The 2nd and 3rd Piano Concertos, the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The Symphonic Dances. Man, that is music!

5. I've sung the Midnight Vespers twice

I'm a Russian bass so I totally get off on the basement-low notes. My conductor lets us go lower if we've got it.

And "Isle of the Dead" too. It seems that only gigantic Russian and Finnish bassos can really bring the goods these days with the subterranean voice parts.
