1. He sounds like an idiot - what exactly was he trying to imply?
|
I don't understand. If they people voting were on the voter rolls when they checked in, what was the problem?
And that statement about the Aurora Theater shooting was stupid. Not all theaters in Colorado offer midnight showings of newly released movies like that Batman movie. He's trying to say the racial mixture at the theater is indicative of who lives in Aurora and it's not. Some of those people went to that movie theater from outside of Aurora. I woman who worked in my local Subway restaurant shop and lived probably 20 miles away from that theater went there for that movie and was one of the people killed. So that guy is a dope trying to use that as some kind of example. |

12. And the statement about the people at malls is about wealth and expendible money.
|
Many people don't have money to spend as if it's a leisure or sporting event. For many, their entire income goes to necessities, which they don't need to go to a mall to get, they shop at very few places. He's making the correlation between income and citizen rights, on a subsconcious level.
Same comparison could be made in another venue, saying one didn't see those people in their church or country club. The GOP perception of what being a good citizen is skewed by wealth. If you're poor, or of color, you are automatically suspect of all kinds of things that have nothing to do with reality and justify hurting those people more. If you are dressed better, are able to afford to hang out where they can go, have more material goods, you are virtuous. These people really need to read the Founding Fathers on the equality of all people instead of the Confederate dreams. This guy wasn't 'overtly' racist, but he is still delusional and foolish in the way he regards others. At first he seemed to say that it was nice of volunteers to bring the people food and drink. Then he started going conspiracy on the event. Even if there was a website that alerted people where to vote, it's none of his business. Ugh. |

What he was really seeing was the Obama GOTV ground game in action.
Obama supporters were out in force on election day. It was a scene repeated in hundreds if not thousands of precincts around the country. |

|
One precinct I gave a voter a ride to had all kinds of African-American voters. Worse yet, they had free banana chocolate chip cake and other food to sustain them as they went through the one to two hour line.
Funny those people weren't all at the Mall of America last weekend. Nor was the banana cake. Suspicious, indeed |

people weren't in the theater the night of the shooting is probably they could not afford the tickets to a movie. They had to pay for basic needs first. I would call voting a basic need. If you have no income, do you choose a movie or food on the table and heat in your home? What an asshat...

have been trying to figure out how these white males of that age (like my husband) did in the 60s? Did all the idealism of the day just turn people into asshats overnight or ? We still feel as strongly about the ideals of those days - probably even more so now.

glad I didn't hang out with them. I couldn't stand the supposed "in" group - cheerleaders, football players, etc. I'm a loner anyway which is part of the reason I met my still bestest friend - it will be 50 years next year! Thank you, Beatles and Rolling Stones for her! She's truly an angel...if I believed in angels.

Its a big, diverse county with neighborhoods that vary from wealthy and white to low income and immigrants from all over the world. This is an example of someone stepping out of his little, self absorbed world and seeing reality. Kinda like the rest of the Repubs!

Last edited Thu Nov 15, 2012, 08:17 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) It's on the eastside and has about the most diverse demographics anywhere in the city. We have residents here who moved into the area in the 40s and 50s. They live right next door to Hmong, Somali, Ethiopian, Latin American, Vietnamese, Chinese, and other ethnic families who have moved here since then. And we turn out about 80% of registered voters in presidential elections. Standing in line at my precinct's polling place means listening to several languages all at once, throughout the day. We're all neighbors, and over 70% are Democrats.
He'd have had to run screaming from the place, I'm sure. |

This guy doesn't know the facts about the racial composition of his county because he lives in a separate world, the Mall, the Club, the Church, etc.
