Will the GOP Steal America's 2012 Election?

Will the GOP Steal America's 2012 Election?

by Harvey Wasserman and Bob Fitrakis

The Republican Party could steal the 2012 US Presidential election with relative ease.Electronic voting machines in Ohio.

Six basic factors make this year's theft a possibility:

1. The power of corporate money, now vastly enhanced by the US Supreme Court's Citizens' United decisions;

2. The Electoral College, which narrows the number of votes needed to be moved to swing a presidential election;

3. The systematic disenfranchisement of—according to the Brennan Center—ten million or more citizens, most of whom would otherwise be likely to vote Democratic. More than a million voters have also been purged from the rolls in Ohio, almost 20% of the total vote count in 2008;

4. The accelerating use of electronic voting machines, which make election theft a relatively simple task for those who control them, including their owners and operators, who are predominantly Republican;

5. The GOP control of nine of the governorships in the dozen swing states that will decide the outcome of the 2012 campaign; and,

6. The likelihood that the core of the activist "election protection" community that turned out in droves to monitor the vote for Barack Obama in 2008 has not been energized by his presidency and is thus unlikely to work for him again in 2012.

Winning a fair and reliable electoral system can be achieved only with a massive grassroots upheaval.

The power of money is now enshrined by the infamous Citizens United decision. In at least 90% of our Congressional races and at least 80% of our US Senate races, the candidate who spends the most money wins. ...............(more)

1. Scares the shit out of me, but it is soooooo true.

A voting machine can be hacked for $100. Let's see, $1 billion divided by $100....that's a lot of machines.

3. They can't.

At least not without making it more glaringly obvious than ever before. By that I mean there are too many people aware, damn the polls, that Obama is more popular than Romney by far too much.

It wouldn't be an academic thing like Ohio where everything could be excused away to people that either didn't care or didn't want to know. No, it would be a 'gut' thing where people would be unwilling to accept the weak excuses.

Imagine every single black/AA group, labor union, and teacher's union suddenly jumping into the election fraud issue.

That' would be the consequence of stealing it this time.... at the very least.

5. They can't

I am very much afraid that they will. Here in Wisconsin, I believe the recall election was dishonest. If President Obama was running in an honest election, he would win hands down. My gosh, wouldn't you think that all the money the Republicans are spending would bring us out of the deficit?

9. I hope you are right but..

you said, "At least not without making it more glaringly obvious than ever before." Why would that make a difference? There are a lot of things about the campaign, the politics of the GOP, the money, the Supreme Court, and more, that are more glaringly obvious than it has ever been before.

I wouldn't put it aside and not be very wary, and ready if it happens.

Things are not the way they used to be...

11. Yeah....although it doesn't mean they won't try though.

It's going to take a LOT more gaming the system than back in '04, especially given how unpopular Romney is.
TBH, I'm beginning to suspect that the most likely scenario will be that they may actually try to just make it look close enough to look like the Repubs may have a chance in 2016; that could potentially quell some of the talk about election fraud, and give them some time to re-think their strategy......kinda sounds like Rove's backup plan, don'tcha think?

17. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's been their plan all along.

I really didn't think of them trying to maintain the appearance that the race was close, but that makes perfect sense now that I think of it.

It's been my theory that TPTB want another 4 years for another economic bubble to grow and to foment ever more fear and hatred of Obama and 'liberals' among their future jackboots.

I'm thinking Nikki Haley will be their candidate for 2016.

Another 'first'.
Daughter of Immigrants.
Articulate and intelligent.

She'll take the independent vote like a Koch takes a forest.

13. They would if they could, even if it were glaringly obvious.

They don't even try to hide their ways anymore.

14. What do you call the "voter suppression" that is already going on in several

of our states?

16. Just another day at the office for them.

That's standard procedure. They'll have to go above and beyond in order to swing it for Obama.

4. Between voter suppression, purges and electronic voting machines I am really concerned that they

will pull off another Rape of Democracy as in 2000 and no doubt in 2004.

Don't know WHAT will happen if (when) they do.

There should not be ANY electronic voing machines being used.... they are too hackable!!

recommended!

just sit there and take it like they did before?
I'm afraid of the answer to that. We're entering
a new dark age with iphones.

7. That is why the MSM polls keep showing the race as tied...so we won't think there is

anything suspicious when (if) Raw Money wins.

8. What about

...Riots? I mean, if there is any HINT of hinkiness in the election results, won't there be an overwhelming number of people that will NOT sit this result out, the way they did in 2000. Right? Wouldn't it be expensive to everyone to quell the riots? I don't know though...

It was horrible.

20. Rove hired Mike Connell to fix the 2004 election so Ohio would go to dubya

Then in 2008 Mike Connell was called to testify about his part in the fraudulent activity and, before he could, he crashed and died flying his small plane. Rove had threatened him to take the blame for everything.

This is a condensed version of what happened but it is the bottom line.

I do know that Rove is very much involved, but behind the scenes. He has a couple of superpacs. And recently he "joked" about murdering Akin.
