The Connecticut woman found dead with her two young grandsons Wednesday reportedly shot them and then herself.

Debra Denison, 47, reportedly picked up her 2-year-old and 6-month-old grandsons from daycare Tuesday and drove to a nearby golf course, killed the boys and then turned the .38 caliber handgun on herself, Connecticut State Police said, according to the Darien Patch.

Police issued an Amber Alert Tuesday night at 7:45 p.m. after receiving a call from the boys' mother, Brenda Perry, to report Alton, 2, and Ashton, 6 mo., missing.

The Amber Alert stated Denison had a history of bipolar disorder and medical conditions. Police were alerted to a car matching the description of Denison's white Chrystler with three injured people inside around 9:30 p.m. near Lake of Isles golf course. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

5. Per John McCain...

all the grieving mother needs is straight talk about guns.

What really pisses me off is that the conservative scum want to hem and haw about gun control measures.

We (our elected leaders) have cut and cut mental health care to the bone and now we are paying the price.

My heart (as does Supernova) goes out to the mother of those two children.

6. none of the proposed changes would have stopped this

just a handgun, not an assult rifle
just a few bullets, not an extended clip
just someone suffering from bipolar, not a foaming at the mouth, wild-eyed schizophrenic
and just a few deaths, not a massacre.

yeah, nothing to do here. move along.

Repeal the 2nd amendment.

17. There is no way the second amendment will be repealed...

and if that were to happen easily, I would be very worried that any amendment could simply be overturned (though the fourth amendment is run roughshod over every day).

However, what could be done is overturning these INSANE laws that protect the manufacturers and sellers of killing devices from criminal and civil liability when their products are used as designed.

Every single person and business the the chain of a crime involving a gun should be culpable for that crime. If people knowingly manufactured bombs designed for killing people and sold them to someone with a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" that they wouldn't be used to kill people, the courts and juries would have their ass. The same should go for guns and ammo.

9. I could be snarky but this is just too pathetic.

It's sad that something like this happens every day in America. Gun manufacturers can kiss my damn ass and the NRA can go to hell!

11. Mental health care insurance coverage parity is what we need.

Not saying it will end this, but it can reduce it and in some cases make what happens less severe.

14. 'She took our babies'; murder-suicide leaves woman, two grandchildren dead

North Stonington — Brenda Perry made mini-cupcakes for her son Alton's second birthday and delivered them and her two children to their day care program Tuesday.

She made arrangements for her mother, Debra Denison, to pick up Alton and his 6-month-old brother, Ashton, early so that Alton wouldn't have to spend his entire special day at day care.

But when Denison picked up her grandsons, police said, she drove them to a remote location near the North Stonington/Preston border, shot the two boys and then killed herself.

Donna Connors, the boys' paternal grandmother, said Denison had bipolar disorder and had attempted to commit suicide in the past. But Connors said Perry told her that for the past several months her mother had appeared to be fine.

"I just feel if she wanted to do herself in, why did she have to take two innocent babies with her?" Connors asked Wednesday.

At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a person who had seen an Amber Alert state police had issued for the three called 911 after finding a white 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van with three bodies inside parked near the state's Lake of Isles Boat Launch.

A revolver was recovered at the scene, police said. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the manner and cause of the deaths.

Connecticut grandmother, Debra Denison, seemed fine on day of alleged murder-suicide involving grandkids: daycare workers

Debra Denison showed no signs of trouble on the day she allegedly shot her grandsons, Alton and Ashton Perry, and then killed herself after picking up the boys from daycare. ‘We've all gone over it in our heads,’ a daycare worker said.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Thursday, February 28, 2013, 1:44 PM.

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. — Debra Denison chatted with day care workers as they helped load her two grandsons into her van.

It had been a day full of smiles and cupcakes for 2-year-old Alton Perry, who was celebrating his birthday, and nothing seemed amiss, said Nikki Salaun, the director of the Kidds & Co. day care.

But instead of taking the children home as planned, Denison vanished Tuesday and left behind a suicide note. After a frantic search, she and her grandsons, 2-year-old Alton Perry and 6-month-old Ashton Perry, were found shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide.

"We've all gone over it in our heads," Salaun said. "Did she say something that we could have picked up on? But no, there was nothing alarming."

Relatives said Denison had struggled with mental health problems, but family and friends were left struggling to understand what could have prompted the violence.
