This was only for two years, and then he would have to run again in 2014. Lil Scotty wants to be the Gubna, hoo, hoo hoo.

33. I will continue to argue that Brown's victory was merely luck. Tea Party movement AND

support for his candidacy; a horrible Democratic Party candidate (we must not allow that to happen again); and overall apathy in the electorate.

The guy just got lucky. He looks great, talks a good game, and benefitted from the bad feelings in the electorate at the time, plus a totally inept Democratic Party candidate (we must not let than happen again).

59. I wonder if 2 years from now he could even win the Republican nomination

many Republicans might be angry that he dithered on this and have left them little time to find anyone with a remote chance.

Also, he has run away from even being identified as Republican - bizarrely saying McConnell would have had to win his vote for who should be majority leader.

What can he do in the next two years that would add to his very thin resume?

His strange facebook and twitter usage does not make him look like a strong, intelligent, purposeful leader - he sounded like a despondent teenager.

His number one asset is one that in his case has not improved with age - his looks.

...to take back all the nice things they've said about John Kerry in recent months and to announce they're looking into any provisions allowing them to take away their "yes" votes on Kerry's SOS confirmation.

27. Things are always what they are...

...but sometimes people misinterpret what is plainly going on in front of their faces.

If you think the same people (GOPers) who once bashed Kerry as a cowardly, swiftboating traitor would now be cheering him on for SOS without a self-serving motive (like gaining an opportunity to win another GOP Senate seat), then you are far more trusting and pure-hearted than I am.

28. It is not a question of trust.

McCain was specifically mentioned. McCain has always been a friend of Kerry's. McCain criticized the swiftboaters in 2004. Possibly you have forgotten Kerry was thinking of putting in McCain as his VP in 2004 --and Biden said he would support it.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4542516/ns/msnbc-hardball_with_chris_matthews/t/sen-joe-biden-says-he-would-support-kerry-mccain-ticket/#.UQsNf_J0kmU

35. The article presents speculation, not news.

Nowhere in this article does it confirm that Kerry had McCain on his short list for VP or -- more importantly -- that McCain would do it. (Even Biden says McCain wouldn't.)

Besides, the question isn't whether John Kerry likes John McCain; it's what's going on in McCain's head, since he's the one voting to confirm Kerry as SOS, not the other way around.

McCain has already shown he'd sell his soul to the Devil for political advantage... when he embraced GWBush after the 2000 election, when he went from "Maverick" to Teabagger to keep from losing his Senate seat in a tough primary. It would be no stretch for McCain to push Kerry for a cabinet job to open up a Senate seat.

No doubt McCain has been friends with Kerry in the Senate. McCain was also friends with Hagel in the Senate, but Hagel's confirmation wouldn't open up a Senate seat.

So, despite the fact that Hagel and Kerry hold very similar views on a number of international issues, McCain threw roses to one (Kerry) but lambasted the other (Hagel).

How curious.

60. The two cases are very different and McCain never swiftboated Kerry - he even defended him once

Then it was a case that their party could lose the Presidency. This time it confirming an Obama SOS. ANY SOS picked would implement Obama's foreign policy and would be someone who agreed with him. The SENATE REPUBLICANS, as contrasted to the talking heads and their followers KNOW Kerry and respect him.

McCain and Corker were effusive in their praise of Kerry's handling of the START treaty. Corker was the same speaking of Kerry's work in Afghanistan. Graham spoke of his respect for Kerry's ability, patriotism and character when they worked on climate change. I could list more. ALL of these are more than a year before Kerry was up for SOS and before Brown lost the seat.

At which point, I agreed 100% with Beachmom. Even in 2004, it was McCain who owed Kerry, but he also wanted to progress in the Republican party. The praise I referred to was in 2010 in the lame duck session.

44. So all the cowardly attacks on Kerry on DU were for nothing then.

Good to know that the pathetic sniveling cowardice shown on this site where people jumped on board with Susan Rice who wasn't even a nominee just to thwart Kerry from seeking a job he wanted, was proven to be as stupid as I and other Kerry supporters said it would be.

It was no foregone conclusion that Brown would win anyway. Only in the hearts and minds of those unwilling to fight. But now that he's not even running I think some of you owe Kerry a major apology. And hell, the President as well since he chose the best person for the job and even though it's been proven time and time again that Kerry is one of if not the best foreign policy asset in our Government, a ton of you decided to go after the choice like rabid pit bulls.

And you call yourself Democrats.
