Poll: New Jersey Democrats Prefer Booker Over Lautenberg For ‘14 Senate Race
Source: TPM
TOM KLUDT 10:49 AM EST, THURSDAY JANUARY 10, 2013 Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) has yet to decide if he will seek another term in New Jersey's 2014 U.S. Senate race, but a poll released Thurday indicated that Democratic voters in the Garden State would rather see a high-profile potential challenger in office than the 88-year-old incumbent. According to the latest poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University, 42 percent of self-identified Democrats would like to see Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker elected to the Senate if "a Democrat were to win," while just 20 percent prefer Lautenberg. Booker has not met with Lautenberg since announcing his intention to run last month. Earlier this week, the popular mayor said he intends to give Lautenberg "the space to make his own decision," adding that the five-term senator has been in office "for a long time." -30- Read more: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/poll-new-jersey-voters-prefer-booker-over-lautenberg

2. Time for a graceful exit

Lautenberg has been an excellent senator. He saved the seat with the Torricilli debacle. But his health is not good and we cannot afford for Christie to have the opportunity to make an appointment.

3. Hope Lautenberg runs again.
|
The only knock on him is his age. He's one of the more liberal Senators. Booker seems to be a Third Way RTTP kind of guy. If Lautenberg doesn't run I would much prefer to see Frank Pallone take his place.

4. I happen to agree. Lautenberg did a fine job for the last 6 years.
|
Why knock on what's working. Booker should have focused on running against Christie - and Christie's support is actually mile wide, but an inch deep.
I think it's time for Christie to be shown his arse to the door. |

7. Christie's approval is up to something like 72%
|
and the Sandy nightmare will see him through re-election as long as he continues to target his bully act against his own and doesn't continue to get caught ferrying around in helicopters on the state dime to attend his kids' games. Otherwise a Dem like Booker would have been a shoe-in. It was obvious that Booker was gearing up for it but fate intervened.

6. Great. Another corporate toady

Just what the senate needs. And if he is successful he'll get rammed down our throats at a higher level too.
