Biden to head gun policy push after Newtown shootings

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will announce on Wednesday that Vice President Joe Biden will lead an effort to come up with policies to address gun violence amid calls for action following the massacre of 26 people including 20 children in a Connecticut elementary school last week.

The president is not expected to announce policy decisions but rather lay out the process by which his administration will move forward, White House aides said.

Obama has turned to Biden in the past to take a role in high-profile policy initiatives, such as efforts to seek a deficit-reduction compromise with congressional Republicans in 2011.

Biden's mission - to coordinate a process among government agencies to formulate policies in the wake of the Newtown shootings - comes just days after an event that appears to have generated a national outcry for greater efforts to stem gun violence.

1. The gun fondler here at work is frothing at the mouth about this.

And he spent the whole campaign calling him "Plugs Biden" and intimating Biden couldn't tie his own shoes. But now he's an evil mastermind who will somehow take everyone's gun away with the snap of his fingers.

3. Being from DE I've become proud of "Our Joe" but....

Twenty years ago I wrote a note to Joe Biden and some others saying that if they didn't stop
pushing for more gun laws I was going to register to vote and vote against them.

I registered and have voted ever since.

Joe was interviewed once on the news about gun regulations (and probably a shooting)
and joe got so excited that the anchorperson was embarrassed and actually trying to end
the interview.

I'm not saying we don't need more regulation but you may as well appoint the Brady Bunch to run the committee.

Remember how you felt during this last election when Lyan Ryan was spouting all his crap
about taking 713B from waste and giving it to the wealthy as a tax reduction?

It's the same as assigning George Wallace to run the affirmative action program.

Well, whatever. McCarthy blew his career going over the line. Let's hope Joe tries to keep a level head.

I'm not making a point against changes in regulation - I'm saying we need a fucused effort to do the right thing.
