Jill Kelley, Woman Who Sparked Petraeus Scandal, Ran Questionable Charity

Source: Huffington Post

Tampa, Fla., socialite and military hostess Jill Kelley, one of the women at the center of the ever-expanding scandal that brought down former CIA Director David Petraeus, founded a questionable charity for cancer patients with her surgeon husband, Scott Kelley.

Based out of the couple's mansion, the Doctor Kelley Cancer Foundation claimed on its tax forms that it "shall be operated exclusively to conduct cancer research and to grant wishes to terminally ill adult cancer patients."

From the records, it appears that the charity fell far short of its mission. While the origins of the seed money used to start the charity in 2007 are unclear, financial records reviewed by The Huffington Post reveal that the group spent all of its money not on research, but on parties, entertainment, travel and attorney fees.

By the end of 2007, the charity had gone bankrupt, having conveniently spent exactly the same amount of money, $157,284, as it started with -- not a dollar more, according to its 990 financial form. Of that, $43,317 was billed as "Meals and Entertainment," $38,610 was assigned to "Travel," another $25,013 was spent on legal fees, and $8,822 went to "Automotive Expenses."

82. There's a potential that the IRS would investigate because it "would look suspicious not to"?

No more suspicious than failing to investigate and prosecute openly admitted war criminals. No more suspicious than failing to investigate and prosecute, for example, Cheney who openly admitted on television in a happy way that he participated in the approval of torture and particularly water-boarding.

No more suspicious than failing to investigate and prosecute banksters who collectively engaged in the most masisve fraud that this world has ever seen.

There seems to be a policy described by some as "It's OK if you're a Republican."

And the crooked cancer doc and his socialite wife make a bundle out of ruining other peoples' lives. Given the Kelleys' level of debt, what did they have to lose? No one would bother to sue them for slander or defamation - they have no assets to take.

you have the head of the CIA, a former 4 star army general who is chummy with a "socialite" who blows more money than her Dr. Hubby can make, giving lavish parties to high ranking military personnel while her twin sister's husband is luring investors into his get rich quick schemes in Iraq.

I think this story will get much more interesting when we learn more about the "socialite, the twin sister, and the business ventures of her ex. Just my guess.

29. Good lord - they got a quote from a Taliban spokesman.

Some Pentagon officials strongly deny Allen had an affair with Kelley but the sheer volume of emails has raised questions about just what kind of relationship the pair had.

The denials did not stop a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, from attempting to exploit the US army's evident embarrassment.

"I can say that this shows how shameless all the American troops are, starting from the top commander to the soldiers. Having unlawful relations with a woman is very normal in America," he said.

And this -

A former member of the general's military staff told the Washington Post that Kelley was a "self-appointed" go-between for US central command officers in Florida and Middle East government officials. Kelley and her siblings were born in Lebanon and brought to the US as small children.

This is getting more and more interesting.

As for the Army Ball, there were 45 General-level officers on the list (most were with their spouses, and some were retired), from the USA, Great Britain, Australia and Canada.

Here's a sampling of the names on the VIP invite list with the Kelleys, and their roles at the time (April 2011):

Military officers:

General James Mattis, USMC, Commander, USCENTCOM
Admiral Eric Olson, USN, Commander, USSOCOM
Lieutenant General John Allen, USMC, Deputy Commander, USCENTCOM
Lieutenant General David Fridovich, USA, Deputy Commander, USSOCOM
Major General Joseph Votel, USA, Chief of Staff, USSOCOM
Major General Michael Jones, USA, Chief of Staff, USCENTCOM
Major General Charles Cleveland, USA, Commander, SOCCENT
Major General Clive "Chip" Chapman, GBR, Sr. British Military Adviser, USCENTCOM
Civic leaders:

Rick Scott, Governor, State of Florida
Marco Rubio, U.S. Senator
Bill Nelson, U.S. Senator
Kathy Castor, Congresswoman, 11th District
C.W. "Bill" Young, Congressman, 10th District
Artheia Joyner, State Senator, District 18
Bob Buckhom, Mayor of Tampa
Bill Foster, Mayor of St. Petersburg
Not bad company for an "unpaid social liaison."

36. According to the Washington Post, the Kelley's are having some financial problems...

Behind the glamour, though, the couple was racking up substantial debt. Banks have initiated foreclosure proceedings on two of the Kelleys’ properties — not including their six-bedroom home — and other creditors have sued them for tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt, according to court records filed in Hillsborough County District Court. A lawyer who represented the Kelleys in the civil suits said he had not been authorized by his clients to discuss the cases.

38. I find this very odd and very questionable:

"A military officer who is a former member of Petraeus’s staff said Kelley was a “self-appointed” go-between for Central Command officers with Lebanese and other Middle Eastern government officials."

Go-betwen with Middle Eastern government officials....

Anybody remember "Homeland" the series with the call girls for the Middle eastern royalty/businessmen?

I also want to know when the military started having non-military wives coordinating social activities....I always thought of this as part of the role of the "Officer's Wives Club"...

In my 22 years in the Navy, I never once saw a set up like this. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

47. I said this morning, how the hell does someone with no

link to the military, or to an employer that is involved with the military, manage to insert herself into CentCom functions with the brass who are running the war? Who authorized her to do ANYTHING on base or in regard to any military function? Very frightening to see how easily someone can infiltrate the top levels of our military, with NO DoD sponsor or contractor being accountable for her actions.

53. She would never pass a security clearance with her financial problems.

She doesn't have just sloppy credit but some very big debt issues which makes her a very risky person to associate with. This doesn't make sense at all.

Maybe she retired from the "trade" but maintained her high level relationships. I wonder where the seed money for her "charity" came from.

87. Source & cause, but not the only ones...I think there may have been more of a national security risk

....with these two twins than there was necessarily with Paula Broadwell. I think the involving of a rogue FBI agent doing side investigations without warrants and also the business dealings of Grayson Wolfe, now ex-husband of Twin Natalie, is also very suspicious and worrisome. He was involved in oil dealings....hmmmmm....

40. GOP FL attorney general Pam Bondi partied at Jill Kelley's

According to this news article in the UK, Florida's Attorney General Pam Bondi was
a guest of Jill Kelley's parties:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9673429/David-Petraeus-ordered-lover-Paula-Broadwell-to-stop-emailing-Jill-Kelley.html

...Mrs Kelley, whose role as "social liaison" is unpaid, was a frequent guest at Central Command functions. After being presented at one event with a certificate naming her an "honorary ambassador" for allied nations, she began using the title minus the "honorary", according to The Associated Press.

She and her husband hosted Mr Petraeus at a party on their lawn for Tampa's annual Gasparilla parade in 2010. He arrived with a 28-car motorcade. Other guests included Pam Bondi, Florida's Attorney General and a close ally of Mitt Romney, the former presidential candidate....

Meanwhile, the NY Post had a different spin:

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/battle_john_allen_also_helped_jill_YjkEYUNY2INC4smBMEYqUI

And in court documents filed by Kelley's sister Natalie Khawam, she name-drops both Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island -- who both have ties to a Providence, RI, lawyer/Democratic fundraiser who loaned a whopping $300,000 to Khawam.

A spokesman for Whitehouse today that lawyer, Gerald Harrington, has dated and "may have been engaged to Khawam." Harrington has not returned a call seeking comment.

Khawam claimed in a July 12 letter to her estranged husband that she took their now 4-year-old son "on vacation last year to Martha Vineyard," where their son and "I had a great time at the DSCC event."

...A spokeswoman for Kerry – who the Washington Post reports is being considered as President Obama's next secretary of defense -- in an email comment wrote, "Senator Kerry’s friend Jerry Harrington introduced him to his girlfriend (Natalie) at a DSCC event."

wants us to rely on charitable organizations like this POS for our health care? For reals. Another reason to go universal health/single payer/socialized medicine.

73. veryyyy interesting

Hmm either its the kelleys setting out the ladies or espionage, or both. In any case this could bring down a LOT of people. For foreign intel operatives, the Kelleys are exactly what they are looking for, people with access to some of the big movers and shakers in the military and elected officials and have serious financial problems. The whole middle eastern nexus does not look promising at all.

74. Also:t WHO IN GOVT sponsored Jill Kelley at McDill Air Force Base?

Proocedures for visiting an American airforce base require a govt sponsor who is "responsible" for the conduct of the visitor.

Who is Jill Kelley's required govt sponsor when Jill Kelley is allegedly "strutting" around McDill AFB and needs to "take it down a notch"
as was alleged in allegedly existing anonymous emails to Kelley?

80. This morning on my way to the train station

I heard a story on the news that one of the sisters, and I can't remember which one now, called 9-1-1 to complain about the media outside her house and wanted the police to do something about it. In the call she stated that she was an honorary US Consul, entitled (!) to diplomatic immunity (IIRC the phrase she used was something along the lines of "I'm an honorary US consul and have diplomatic inviolability.") and that perhaps the police could invoke that when clearing the media away. A State Department spokesman, when questioned about it, said that she was not an honorary consul. These people are loons.

typical Republican financial behavior. Buncha thieves wanting to pocket money for themselves. Isn't that what they all do all the way up including the most wealthy? That's why so many others are broke, they are stealing form them.
