House leader heard of Petraeus affair Oct. 27

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says Cantor first heard about CIA Director David Petraeus’ extramarital affair on Oct. 27 from an FBI source he didn’t know.

Communications director Rory Cooper told The Associated Press on Monday that the call was arranged by Rep. Dave Reichert, a Washington Republican. Reichert had initially received a tip from an FBI source who was a colleague of the FBI employee who called Cantor.

The following Wednesday, Oct. 31, after the government reopened following Superstorm Sandy, Cantor’s chief of staff called the FBI chief of staff to inform him of the call. The FBI official called back the next day, saying that he couldn’t confirm or deny an investigation.

16. She stated that she wanted to be a national security adviser one day.

I am willing to bet that there were inquiries made to the Romney campaign through channels (Cantor, et al) for an appointment in a Romney administration in return for classified information on Benghazi.

There is more to this than just a general getting laid, this woman had an agenda and a plan.
She seems to be hugely ambitious, with an even huger ego.

Petreaus was a willing participant, but was not aware of the game she was really playing.

6. If Cantor and Bonehead knew of this on Oct. 27th

You know full well that they discussed it with Romney and Rove, and asked if this was to their advantage or their disadvantage. Only the likelihood that no one among them could figure out if there was anything to be gained, or not, by screaming it from the top of their (Fox Noise) lungs as soon as they heard the news prevented the news from becoming public knowledge earlier.

They probably STILL don't know.

10. Now we know why they didn't take President Obama's phone call.

They weren't sleeping. They were hiding under their beds thinking they were going to be arrested.

13. Maybe that's why Cantor kept it under his hat

My suspicion is that he figured there was a strong chance that Romney would lose (I expect his aides were telling him what was going on in Virginia) and that he needed something to help oust Boner in whatever Congress would emerge from the election. I think it's quite possible that the tea party element will try to remove Boner if they perceive him as giving away too much in the lame duck session.

14. "...from an FBI source he didn’t know...." Riiiiiiiiiight

1. Why would this source give info to Cantor (and who else was this info given to)
2. What does Cantor gain by saying what he knew way after the fact?

15. The FBI has no business going to a Representative for anything.

This is not a whistle blower. This is a snitch. The FBI is a federal agency. The head of the FBI is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

If an FBI agent is concerned about something, they are supposed to relay that concern to their superior, who would relay it up the line to the director, who would then relay it to the Attorney General.

Some anonymous FBI agent went to Republicans in the House? They need to be fired.

18. Completely agree....meanwhile I think that based on what we know so far about the FBI snitch going

....to Cantor, my sense is this is ultimately goung to be the downfall of Cantor rather than Boehner.

I have no doubt that Cantor, the sleazebag that he is, saw this as an opportunity for a power grab, whether it be against Boehner under a President Romney or a President Obama. But I think ultimately think it will lead to Cantor's unraveling and Boehner will be all too happy to help.
