Just days before the Nov. 6 election, Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow is holding on to her double-digit lead over Republican challenger Pete Hoekstra in the latest Detroit News/WDIV Local 4 presidential poll released Wednesday.

Stabenow was leading Hoekstra 52.4 percent to 37.5 percent, a 14.9-point lead, according to the poll of 600 likely voters conducted Saturday through Monday by Glengariff Group Inc. of Chicago.

The poll also showed Stabenow, elected to the Senate in 2000, has a 23-point lead among women and a 20-point lead among independents.

"Debbie Stabenow is going to win comfortably in this race," pollster Richard Czuba said.

4. Yeah, I'm betting that idea

to appeal to rank racism doesn't seem so smart now.

You know, I could never run for public office because I could never win "graciously" in a situation like this one. When my opponent called to "congratulate" me, I would be unable to refrain from commenting "This is what happens when you are a racist asshole. I hope you have learned your lesson, but I won't hold my breath.

politicians handle these troglodytes. I could never do that. I guess it's a good thing I'm not the one running for office.
