Meghan McCain to GOP after Sandy: Do you still doubt climate change?
By Ben Geman - 10/30/12 08:51 AM ET

Political analyst Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), is challenging widespread GOP skepticism about climate change in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

“So are we still going to go with climate change not being real fellow republicans (sic)?” McCain wrote, via Twitter, around midnight as the storm was slamming ashore.

McCain’s father has advocated for curbing greenhouse gas emissions and co-sponsored cap-and-trade bills several years ago.

However, substantial numbers of Republicans now dispute widely held scientific views about global warming and the extent of humans’ contribution.

party will split in two which may happen anyway.

32. They won't split. This election has them all lined up behind Romney, even after the contentious

primary. The GOP will move further to the right after the election because the primary losers (Santorum, Perry, Gingrich, Bachman) will be able to say "I told you so".

49. She's young. Smart? Not so much. Unless by "smart" you mean "opportunistic."

She still defends the indefensible in her party's positions and thinks her cutsie cherry-picking of an occasional issue to be reasonable on gives her credibility.

She's a spoiled rich kid who gets to shoot her mouth off b/c her daddy was also a spoiled rich kid.

21. It needs to turn left or wither away

They've veered as far as they can in catering to the RW crazies, and demographics are turning against them. Hence their manic efforts to suppress the vote.

It's unsustainable, and that's what has to drive them back left, not the voices of individuals like McCain. They just need to decide exactly what part of their core "values" they refuse to give up. My guess is it will be supporting unchecked corporate power, and they'll need to become liberal on social issues, throwing the doctrinaire fundamentalist Christian wing under the bus.

28. Maybe, maybe not

But almost every time she comes out with this sort of statement, there is nothing "Republican" in it. At some point, she has to realize that she is in fact a Democrat and then use whatever influence she has to bring like-minded people into the Democratic party. Leave the RW extremists, know-nothing fundamentalists and misogynists to fight it out among themselves.

51. THIS, I think, is a REALLY important point...

I know more than a few pro-science, pro-choice pro-gressive (haha see what I did there?) "Republicans", but as long as they are still ENEABLING the idiots by not kicking them in the shins every time they say something stupid, they are NOT part of the PRO-active solution to this country's problems, like they still believe their party can be. They may not be doing direct damage, but they aren't really HELPING, either.

17. How Ironic That Not One Question Was Asked

On climate change in any of the 4 debates. And how many did this storm kill, in spite of the storm warnings? The small-scale terrorist attack in Libya that unfortunately killed 4 dominated one debate. Where is the balance. Lots of talk about "legitimate rape" and other hair-splitting definitions but no discussion on climate change. MSM should be ashamed of how and what they cover on political campaigns as it has little to do with what needs to be done. This year, thanks to Citizens United, over $2 billion will be spent on the presidential election yet we will have the most uninformed/misinformed electorate ever. This madness must stop.

entitles you to title of political analyst because you have an opinion? Sorry, she joined the bandwagon with the dogwhistles against Obama during the campaign and is nothing but an apologist for republican actions. No credibility there. None whatsoever.
