Quality concerns arose before TransCanada pipeline blast

A CBC News investigation has learned that TransCanada Pipelines — the Canadian company behind the controversial U.S. Keystone XL pipeline proposal — was troubled by quality-assurance problems on another recent American pipeline that exploded.

The Bison natural-gas pipeline exploded in a remote area near Gillette, Wyo., on July 20, 2011, six months after it went into service.
The explosion blew out a 12-metre section of pipeline and shook buildings more than a kilometre away, but caused no injuries or death.
Documents obtained by CBC News detail a pipeline project with problems relating to welding and inspection.

“We are in trouble on the Bison project,” the pipelines’ construction manager wrote in a Sept. 18, 2010, internal email that lists problems related to welding and inspection. Construction of the project had started in August 2010.

1. My Dad was born in Gillette.

Lots of red leaning folk there. His father & brothers owned a coal mine in the early 1900's. I visited an aunt last summer and found the town is full up with oil & coal workers. Had not changed much since my childhood except more motels to house the transient workers. The traffic was a nightmare.

2. TransCanada uses bad steel pipe from China...

... which has been found to be the cause of ruptures/explosions in more than one incident. It is one of the reasons why people in South Dakota have been against the Keystone pipelines. Low quality, cheap steel from China is used.

3. Just another corporations risking the lives of people and the destruction of the environment

for fun and profit.

If the Bison line blew up thousands of people and turned pristine land into toxic pits, they would still go ahead and build the XL pipeline. It's all about wealth for a few. Those who die and live around the mess just don't matter much in America.
