New York Times: "Barack Obama for Re-Election"
Source: The New York Times
The economy is slowly recovering from the 2008 meltdown, and the country could suffer another recession if the wrong policies take hold. The United States is embroiled in unstable regions that could easily explode into full-blown disaster. An ideological assault from the right has started to undermine the vital health reform law passed in 2010. Those forces are eroding women’s access to health care, and their right to control their lives. Nearly 50 years after passage of the Civil Rights Act, all Americans’ rights are cheapened by the right wing’s determination to deny marriage benefits to a selected group of us. Astonishingly, even the very right to vote is being challenged. That is the context for the Nov. 6 election, and as stark as it is, the choice is just as clear. President Obama has shown a firm commitment to using government to help foster growth. He has formed sensible budget policies that are not dedicated to protecting the powerful, and has worked to save the social safety net to protect the powerless. Mr. Obama has impressive achievements despite the implacable wall of refusal erected by Congressional Republicans so intent on stopping him that they risked pushing the nation into depression, held its credit rating hostage, and hobbled economic recovery. Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has gotten this far with a guile that allows him to say whatever he thinks an audience wants to hear. But he has tied himself to the ultraconservative forces that control the Republican Party and embraced their policies, including reckless budget cuts and 30-year-old, discredited trickle-down ideas. Voters may still be confused about Mr. Romney’s true identity, but they know the Republican Party, and a Romney administration would reflect its agenda. Mr. Romney’s choice of Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate says volumes about that. 2. I'm assuming that its from the New York Times' editorial board since it doesn't say its author.
|
It simply says "Editorial."

....against the Des Moines Register, which endorsed Lurch the Fucking StiffTM, and their deluded, twisted, fucking logic. It's almost as if the editorial board decided to drink a gallon of absinthe before they faced their monitors and keyboards with help from a thousand insane monkeys.
I won't post their splooge here, but here's the link. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20121027/OPINION03/121026026/ |

19. Race shouldn't even be close
|
I don't trust the corporate media since Bush and the Iraq debacle, but the editorial is good and well placed.
I mean Romney??????????? Even Republicans hate the guy but who else did they have that was any better. I figure the GOP knew Obama would win against McCain/Palin...and I figure they assumed Obama would win a second term but if dems don't figure a way around the filibuster and get the House back they will lose in 2016...and you know why...we all do. Repubs don't give a damn about the citizens of this country and never have. They only care about power and enriching themselves so to them it's all about winning...by any means possible and everyday that is more important than what is good for the nation. Such a shame. |

22. Don't kid yourself, the RACE is close because of "race"
|
Last edited Sun Oct 28, 2012, 04:31 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) That's the only reason!
IF Obama had been white, the former Governor of NH would have actually had something of substance to say. As it stands now, racists have been called out to vote because of a "liberal" Republican in a Northeastern state. Racistls LOVE IT!! |

what a great article and endorsement.
Just to give an idea about how important I believe this election is.... I've registered (Democrat) to vote for the first time in 30 years. If Mitt Romney is elected president, the final nail will have been, if not driven into the coffin, made ready to be driven in. |

Can you guys just get this sham election pretending to be democracy over.
Seriously it's becoming a joke of epic proportions, racism, lies, shooting at politicians headquarters etc etc etc If it was anywhere in the middle east it would be INVADE, INVADE,INVADE, in the name of democracy. Im hoping Obama gets re elected so i can go to sleep knowing there is some resemblance of sanity in America IF you morons elect Romney, god help the rest of us, and you deserve to be a 3rd world country. |

Your post is addressing Democrats and progressives as that is the purpose of this board.
Trolls do show up, but this is a discussion group dedicated to Democratic positions and policies. I think I can speak for most here, we want this election over too. I doubt many, if any, DUers will be voting for Romney. |
