Amazon Broke the Internet Again
Source: The Atlantic Wire
Earlier today a bunch of sites, including the front page of the Internet itself, weren't working because Amazon's Elastic Cloud Compute service, or EC2, which hosts many websites sites, was down. As Beta Beat's Jessica Roy notes, when Internetters went to Reddit.com they got the pleasant (but also horrifying) message above. For some, the problem still persists. But it's working fine from the Wire's D.C. office (our New York HQ is still Reddit-less) and TechCrunch's Roman Dillet confirms it's back to normal for "most people." Reddit Status, the Twitter handle that first acknowledged the "network related issue," however hasn't said everything is "back to normal." In addition to Reddit, Roy notes GitHub, Heroku, Imgur, Turntable, Airbnb and MongoLab are also not working. Read more: http://news.yahoo.com/amazon-broke-internet-again-190022002.html A lot of sites are still affected by this.

So I went to another favorite site. No go, too. I tried another and it worked. Then, another and it wouldn't load.
Things have been screwy today. |

15. That's why Amazon has more than one data center in the USA
|
It seems many (fairly big internet) companies are too cheap to purchase redundant service in a different location or they aren't properly set up to distribute the load around an affected location.

I've spend 20 years working my way up from Walmart mom to soccer mom, and finally, I've hit the glass ceiling. I'm a binder mom! I highly recommend this binder I'm in, but be aware that if you purchase it, you must be flexible and let me put a ham in the oven by 5. Otherwise, my kids might resort to gun violence. 15 Comments | Was this review helpful to you?
