Ohio voter fraud billboards to come down, sponsor stays unnamed

Source: Chicago Tribune

CLEVELAND (Reuters) - More than 140 billboards in Ohio and Wisconsin warning of the criminal consequences of voter fraud will be taken down starting on Monday after the sponsor chose to remove them rather than reveal its identity, the billboard owner said.

The billboards, which show a large judge's gavel and read "Voter Fraud is a felony - up to 3 ½ years and a $10,000 fine," went up primarily in low-income minority neighborhoods in early October, just weeks before the November 6 elections, and were immediately criticized by voter rights groups as an attempt to intimidate minority voters.

The sponsor was not identified on the billboards owned by Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc. The company said this was a violation of its policy against anonymous political ads.

After discussions, the sponsor, whom Clear Channel Outdoor has called a "private family foundation" but declined to name, "thought the best solution was to take the boards down, so we are in the process of removing them," the company said in a statement.

1. Mitt Romney owns Clear Channel

in part thru one of his companies? or something like that. Who has the details?

AND, who is using these billboards as a tax write off?

============= ON EDIT ==========

Bain Capital Owns Clear Channel (Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, Etc.)

Wouldn't it be great if a Republican presidential candidate could just buy the support of just about every major conservative talk show host in America? Well, it may not be as far-fetched as you may think. Clear Channel owns more radio stations (850) than anyone else in the United States. They also own Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates the radio shows of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, among others. Needless to say, Clear Channel basically owns conservative talk radio in the United States. So who owns Clear Channel? Well, it turns out that Bain Capital is one of the primary owners of Clear Channel. .............

13. Sure wish Bain would cannabalize Clear Channel

the way it does other businesses it takes over.

In mob language, it is called a "bust out"
In business, it is called vulture capitalism.

2. Was it violation of company policy BEFORE they put up the 140 signs? Or just after the heat was on?

9. The Damage Has Already Been Done

Voters who do not have IDs are allowed to vote, but they will be afraid to do so, for fear of being imprisoned for being unable to prove that they are "legal".

There really isn't any way to undo this.
It will cost us a lot of votes.

6. So in other words: Damn! You caught us trying to use a sleazy dirty trick...

...however, we don't want to reveal who authorized and paid for the dirty trick, so I guess we'll take them down.

My 2 cents: "private family foundation" is spelled: R-O-M-N-E-Y.

8. After discussions, the sponsor, whom Clear Channel Outdoor has called a "private family foundation"

How many "private families" have foundations with the pocket change to buy billboard ads? (I can think of a couple).

...And what are "private families" doing threatening people with publicly funded law enforcement?

12. sadly, there's thousands of nutbag families with tens of millions made from

shady banking practices, privatized military contracts, etc...

but talk about cowards! won't even stand up for their billboards because they are afraid of blowback. Must be someone involved in a well known midwestern industry, like a grocery chain or something...

11. Clear Channel & Bain - From Wikipedia...

Clear Channel Communications, Inc. is an American mass media company, that is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1972 by Lowry Mays and Red McCombs, the company was taken private by Bain Capital, LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners in a leveraged buyout in 2008; as a result, the company now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of CC Media Holdings, Inc.

14. The one near my house has not been touched.

My wife asked me why they have that up. I said I don't know because they probably prosecuted maybe 8 people in our state ( and I'm probably generous about that). I ended by saying the people that put that up are a bunch of paranoid idiots.
