Romney says abortion legislation isn’t part of his agenda
Source: DesMoinesRegister dot com
Mitt Romney today said no abortion legislation is part of his agenda, but he would prohibit federally-funded international nonprofits from providing abortions in other countries. “There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda,” the GOP presidential candidate told The Des Moines Register’s editorial board during a meeting today before his campaign rally at a Van Meter farm. But by executive order, not by legislation, he would reinstate the so-called Mexico City policy that bans U.S. foreign aid dollars from being used to do abortions, he said. President Barack Obama dropped the policy on his tenth day in office, Romney said. Asked why he’s seeing a bounce in popularity with women in the national polls, Romney joked: “Probably the appearance of my wife on more TV shows. She is my not so secret weapon and is very effective in speaking to people across the country.” He added: “But in all seriousness, I think as we get closer to the election, there is more attention being paid to my actual positions as opposed to the positions that are being described by my opponent. Over the last several months, he has vastly outspent us on the air and has grossly distorted my views on almost every issue.” Read more: http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2012/10/09/romney-says-abortion-legislation-isnt-part-of-his-agenda/article

2. I believe him about the legislation
|
it's through Supreme Court nominations that he has vowed to get rid of Roe v. Wade. Des Moines Register dropped the ball by not making that clear, or even saying anything at all about the S.C. in this story.

|
Apparently, there has been communication that has gone out to AM radio and Fox News to not attack Romney on not being conservative. It's all part of the plan, the bait and switch plan. He had to be conservative to get the nomination and now he's etch-a-sketched probably more than any other candidate EVER to the center.
But because they all know it's part of the plan to win, the baggers and religious will be nice and quiet. I hope the Obama team has figured out how to deal with this shape shifting asshole. |

11. Very sneaky and disingenuous of him.
|
-- But what did we expect?
Of course there isn't any abortion legislation; Roe v. Wade made that pretty much impossible. So he can safely say he isn't promoting any legislation, thereby seeming more moderate to (uninformed) independents and undecideds. However, he and the GOPers know very well that the only way to outlaw abortion is for the Supremes to overturn Roe v. Wade. And that can be done only by appointing right-wing justices. Which Mittens would do - thereby doing the bidding of the wingnut fringe. |

Romney is on record as saying he will appoint "pro life" justices to the Supreme Court. That is how he intends to outlaw abortion, not through legislation. However, he also proclaimed on the the Mike Huckabee show on Fox News that he is for a "Personhood Amendment" to the U.S. Constitution. This so-called reporter never raised either item. Unfuckingbelievable.

At this point, Mitt will say anything to appeal to the undecideds, of which I am NOT. Here in Iowa, I already sent my vote in by mail 2 weeks ago and I understand that Iowa has gone Obama in a big way. His words simply don't mean much anymore, as he is willing to flip-flop on anything besides the truth which he purposely avoids. I want to see them tax returns too. I paid 28% last year, and I don't have a Swiss bank account. What say you, Mittens?!?!

24. Romney picked Ryan - one of the most virulent anti abortionists,
|
anti women legislators in Congress. Romney has only one truth on his stand on abortion - he supports Ryan's position all the way. Make Romney own that position in the next debate. Romney provided the window in with his calling for a prohibition of funds for abortion in foreign countries that receive U.S. aid. As for his comment that there is no legislation he is familiar with - it is more of his ability to forget any fact/policy that is not supported by his immediate audience. As soon as he gets in another audience, his positions/policies change. He is a fair weather politician purely a creation of his audience's wishes. He has no substance, no inner core of beliefs - heaven help us if he is elected to the Presidency. Romney is a revolving door - the question is who will get to spin him for their own purposes.

dramatically. From Massachusetts moderate to right-wing firebrand who relentlessly attacked Perry, Gingrich and Santorum from the right for being too liberal and then all in one night back to Massachusetts moderate again.
