GOP ‘Trying to Slow Economy’ Before Election: Democrat

Source: CNBC

Republicans are deliberately trying to stymie job creation and U.S. economic growth in order to damage President Barack Obama’s reelection chances, a top Obama campaign surrogate charged Friday.

Just minutes before the Labor Department released data showing the unemployment rate falling below 8 percent for the first time in more than three years, Maryland’s Democratic governor Martin O’Malley told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that the Republican-led Congress was engaged in “a political calculation…that if they could slow the job growth before the election, they could hurt the president’s reelection.”

...

When challenged on his assertion, O’Malley – head of the Democratic Governors Association and a close White House ally – insisted that President Obama has introduced a number of jobs initiatives that have not garnered GOP support.

“There is no bill (that Republicans would co-sign), because they’re trying to slow the economy before the election,” said O’Malley. “The president has shown his willingness to compromise, sometimes to a much greater degree than some would deem is prudent.”

1. Haven't they been doing this since January 20, 2008?

I seem to recall a closed-door meeting that day of Repubs hellbent on making Obama fail...

4. How many times ...

How many times have we heard the GOP say "Dead on arrival" ?
that should be made into a TV ad by Obama.
Show bills he's put to Congress, and show them saying "Dead ion arrival".

8. They Don't

They Don't hate America, they hate President Obama and an America run by Democrats. They would love a Republican based rich runs the country, the middle and poor are the grunts and workers America, but the democrats will not allow it to happen. What this country needs is for the congress to go Democrat, for our jobs bills and Infrastructure bills to pass get enacted and then watch the destruction of the tea and republican party as we know it today and bring back the GOP of years ago, when they worked together to form a better then now country.

11. Conversely, hiring was quite weak prior to mid-2004.

After mid-2004 (Bewsh 43's re-election year)? More than a few decent hiring numbers by UhMerica's suddenly-loosening-the-purse-strings corporations (IT'S A MIRACLE!), which was partially helpful in getting him safely back in office and also helpful in making the voting public forget about the disastrous two wars and 9/11 (well, along with his trusty Ohio plant Ken Blackwell and a 24-7 demonizing of John Kerry by our purchased Crack Fourth Estate).

Sorry, I don't buy for one second that demand all of a sudden increased due to the 2001 tax cuts. NOT ONE SECOND.

Of course, once Bewsh got back in, the plundering and housing/financial bubbles continued until all of the wealth was at the top, Bewsh's SEC ignored the shenanigans and whistle-blowers, the economy crashed and WE got stuck with the bill.
