Romney Admits Pushing Misinformation In Debate
By Igor Volsky on Oct 4, 2012 at 11:39 am

During Wednesday night’s president debate, Mitt Romney claimed that “half” of the green firms Obama invested “have gone out of business” and noted that “a number of them happened to be owned by people who were contributors to your campaigns.”

Fact checkers — including this blog — quickly pounced on the claim, noting that only a tiny percentage of firms that received grants or loans from the Recovery Act have actually filed for bankruptcy. And now, the Romney campaign itself is walking back the GOP presidential candidate’s claim. From Michael Grunwald, author of The New New Deal: The Hidden History of Change in the Obama Era:

Michael Grunwald@MikeGrunwald

ICYMI: Romney camp told me (after my tweet-rants) Mitt didn't mean to say half the #stimulus-funded green firms failed. Probably <1% so far.

Grunwald estimates that less than 1 percent of green firms have gone bad in terms of dollar value.

Romney also singled out Tesla Motors, which designs and manufactures electric vehicles, and received a $465 million loan from DOE. Last night, he quipped, “I had a friend who said you don’t just pick the winners and losers, you pick the losers, all right?” But the company is not a loser, in fact, “founder Elon Musk says it will accelerate its payment of the principal in the spring — and the Department of Energy isn’t complaining it’s not getting its money back.” Romney, unfortunately, has turned to rooting against an American company in his effort to unseat Obama.

1. They know this correction will get far less media play and voter attention that the false claims.

Romney and his campaign are odious.

18. Agree

Obama shouldn't have to rely on fact checkers and bloggers to cover what he should have in the debates. A fraction of the people who watched last night will be paying attention to post debate analysis.

8. Mitt lied often and repeatedly

He even lied about stuff that is still posted on his web site. Mitt knew he was lying
and saw the debate as a chance for him to "look good" and he didn't give a damn
about the truth.

That's exactly what that money was used for! But, I guess lack of logic works fine with his base.

11. I think the biggest lie Rummy made

was when comparing his state dems to Obama's house republicons. His state dems didn't make destroying Rummy their most important job like the House cons did to Obama.

22. I think his biggest lie was . . .

When he said that companies did not get a tax break for
moving operations to China.
He also said that if that were true, he needed to find new accountants.

Well it is true, so we should be seeing fired accountants and job postings soon.

Also, it would be interesting to see in his last 10 year tax returns, whether
he actually took these tax breaks when he shipped some of Bains holdings
to China.

41. Thanks, that's very sweet of you.

And now regarding Myth Romney's taxes...

Seems like the boy had some interesting investments....he sure did get tough on China when he decided to run for President again. He had no idea what the trust was investing in but conveniently discovered such and discarded the investments around the time of the beginning of the campaign season...must be pure coincidence.

Bold-face lying is NOT winning a debate, never has been, never will be.

Republicans won't care if Rmoney lies. Anything to beat Obama.
Democrats won't switch to Rmoney.

But those uncommitted, independent voters?
They may believe those lies and vote for Rmoney.

30. Mitt: Call the clean up crew, fast!!!

I remember as a kid going to the circus with my dad. While there, we witnessed the elephant, use one of the three rings as his own toilet. Out came a guy with the worst job in the circus; he had a shovel and a bucket.

Now out comes mitten's shovel and bucket crew to clean up yet another of his messes.
