Lansing — A Grand Rapids group opposed to Proposal 2 started a new TV ad campaign Wednesday saying the collective bargaining amendment will be "terrifying for parents."
Protecting Michigan Taxpayers paid $1.7 million for a one-week TV advertising buy with the message that "Instead of worrying about our kids' grades, we'll have to pray for their safety."
Unions and business interests are clashing over the proposal to enshrine collective bargaining rights in the state constitution. Unions say they are under attack by Republicans who've passed roughly 30 laws to curtail collective bargaining rights.
Today's TV ad says Proposal 2 would "eliminate safety rules for school bus drivers" and make it possible for convicted criminals to work in schools — claims opponents deny.
