Paul Ryan: Contraception Mandate 'Will Be Gone' On 'Day 1'
Source: Huffington Post
GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan sees no place for the Obama Administration's contraception mandate. At a Saturday campaign event in Orlando, Fla., the Associated Press reports that Ryan was asked about whether he would press Vice President and fellow Catholic Joe Biden on his views in relation to the 2012 Democratic Party platform. Ryan's answer turned straight to the piece of Obamacare providing birth control access. He vowed to remove that requirement for insurance providers, including Catholic hospitals and universities, on "day one." "It will be gone," Ryan told onlookers at the University of Central Florida. "I can guarantee you that." Back on February 10, Ryan offered similar criticisms of Obama's contraception plan. In a statement released on his website, the Wisconsin congressman deemed it an "affront to religious liberty." 24. Obamacare has a clause that women will not be discriminated against as they have been.
|
Part of Obamacare increased Medicaid payments and mandated that providers such as Planned Parenthood would not be banned by states.
Romney and Ryan woujld get rid of Obamacare, go back to the death panels by for profit insurance carriers, denying pre-existing conditions and put a cap on benefits even if people die. Yet Lyin' Ryan is busily diverting seniors in FL by using the Sarah Palin federal death panel scare. Right now, GOP legtislators deny women equal access to insurance because they are asking for birth control, etc. in states where they have the majority. Those are aspects of the ACA that Romney can stop on Day One, and that Ryan has defunded in Congress already and Obama had to work around. GOP governors have blocked Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood because it is a joint state and federal run program. To keep essential healthcare for women who couldn't afford it elsehwere, Obama provided the money through Title IX: Title IX is a portion of the Education Amendments of 1972, Public Law No. 92-318, 86 Stat. 235 (June 23, 1972), codified at 20 U.S.C. sections 1681 through 1688, U.S. legislation also identified by the name of its principal author as the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act. It states (in part) that... No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_9 Because of Republican Congressional obstruction and radical GOP governors, Obama had to take that step despite the passage of the ACA. AFAIK, he shifted available funding to wellness care for women under Title IX. So whoever is POTUS can make this happen or not, because of the flexiblity built into the ACA allowing states to refuse to participate. Although someone else may remember the law better, there are provisions for exchanges, but the same GOP governors have refused to set them up. It is imperative that Romney not get into office. I believe Ryan is correct there. |

Of all of the problems we have in America right now, thank god Ryan would tackle this first. Let's rebuild our country one impregnated womb at a time. And remember, when unplanned pregnancy in a bad situation does occur, no abortion. And then, when a child is born into poverty, no welfare. God bless America.

And out in yahoo land, the right wing consensus still is that contraception was introduced into the election as a decoy by Obama to distract from the economy. Could it be that Ryan is trying to distract from the appalling 47% comments from the tickets' header?
Actually, I have a problem with the whole argument. Since when did an institution have a religion? I mean a hospital may be funded and run by a religion, but does that hospital, in and of itself, have a religion? Granted, the eat more chicken folks are trying to establish that corporations, like people, have a religion, but really? For that matter, for something as universal as healthcare, why should the religion of the employer set the benefits of the employee on federally mandated benefits? Could a firm run by Jehovah Witnesses or Christian Scientists deny letting their employee. What if some big family firm decides to convert to a "no medical" sect? Does that mean thousands of employees have no medical benefits at all. Republican logic is scary. When they talk about freedom, it usually means the employers spend less on their employees. |
