Gallup: No immediate bounce for Romney after Ryan VP pick

Source: CBS News

(CBS News) Despite conservative enthusiasm surrounding the announcement that Paul Ryan has been tapped as Mitt Romney's presidential running mate, a new Gallup tracking poll shows that the presumptive GOP nominee has not benefited from any material bounce in its poll since the pick was made public.

According to the survey, 47 percent of registered voters surveyed in the four day period following Romney's announcement said they supported Romney, while 45 percent said they would vote for President Obama. In the four days prior to the announcment, 46 percent backed Romney and 45 percent backed Mr. Obama.

According to that poll, 39 percent of Americans said they thought Ryan was either "excellent" or "pretty good" as a VP choice, while 42 percent called the choice "only fair" or "poor." Nineteen percent expressed no opinion.

By contrast, 46 percent of voters called Sarah Palin an "excellent" or "pretty good" choice in 2008, and 46 percent said the same of Biden. Compared to recent vice presidential candidates, only Dan Quayle has scored higher than Ryan among those who believed him to be an "only fair" or "poor" VP pick.

Dan Quayle. Now that's a blast from the past. I'm not surprised Eddie Munster didn't help.

5. The only one who creeps me out more

is Eric Cantor - smug bastard. Boehner should watch his back with him around. You can see Eric just drooling for the tan man's job. I do agree about Paul - he's super creepy crawly.

7. Hmmmm. Still, something to pay attention to. I remember that Kerry polls

showed he was trending downward, but no one believed them. They turned out to be fairly accurate.

What matters now, I think, is what the swing states do, and whether the trend is up or down for Obama.

9. I have no idea what you're talking about...

There were no "Kerry polls" that were "trending downward." The polls in 2004 showed a dead heat, and so it turned out -- close enough for voting "irregularities" in Ohio to determine the outcome.

10. I have them saved on my other, old computer. Yes, it was a dead heat, with Kerry

trending slightly downward, and often slightly less than Bush. Pretty much how the end result was. I remembered that at the time, I disregarded the ones that showed that, and believed the ones that showed Kerry slightly ahead.

We see what we want to see.

Two national polls show Romney slightly ahead. So....two national polls show Romney slightly ahead. That means something. Maybe not much, in the end. But it means something, if you are a fact seeker.

18. National polls, scmashional polls.

It's where those votes are that matters.

If Romney's up 2% in NC, then that's not good news for Obama. If Romney is up 2% in Texas - well that doesn't mean diddly squat.

8. Rasmussen and Purple Strategies...

In other news, a poll of the College of Cardinals has revealed that 100% of all respondents think Roman Catholic dogma is completely true.

15. Give me a break, Newsmax?!?!

I don't care who did the poll, if Newsmax has it, they crafted the questions to look like the result they wanted.

16. Hey Gallup, if the "bounce" isn't immediate, there was NO bounce. Geeeze!!

I mean, what are they expecting a DELAYED BOUNCE? Like maybe a week after the announcement of Ryan people suddenly get excited about him?

17. You mean this time the cat lived?

There was no so-called "dead cat bounce" ?

If so I'm glad to hear the kitty is safe and well. May the big snowball keep rolling down that mountain, getting larger and larger as it goes to wham! into Romney's political career. Hopefully taking down Ryan too.
