The start of the Winter Olympics has been roundly greeted with enthusiasm (at least by everyone who isnt actually in Sochi) but its unlikely that many people were as happy to see the quadrennial event begin as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The games in Russia came at an especially good time for Christie, too: This past weekend saw yet more bad news for the embattled Republican. Heres what you should know:
The New Jersey Star-Ledger, the Garden States biggest newspaper, wrote a column apologizing for endorsing Christies 2013 reelection bid. Penned by editorial page chief Tom Moran, the piece, while referring to the Christie endorsement, is unequivocal: [W]e blew this one, Moran writes. The article goes on to describe Christie as a creep, but warns that liberals shouldnt rejoice too much in the governors fall, because his rivals for the GOP nomination in 2016 are even worse.

Meanwhile, Christies best friend in the media, former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, is now urging the governor to resign as head of the Republican Governors Association. Scarborough is no doubt reacting to the continuing pattern of nominal Christie allies staying far away from him when he shows up in their states to fundraise. Republican Bill Brady, a gubernatorial candidate in Illinois, has been the lone exception.

A rally demanding Christie resign is being held on Tuesday by two anti-Christie groups. Theyve invited those who were stuck on the George Washington Bridge due to the traffic snarl engineered by Christie allies to join them.

(46 posts)Anyone that has watched the morning show and would consider voting for Joey has to be stupid. He is a hateful loud mouth who bullies those who sit at the morning table. If he thinks Bill Clinton will have a problem with Monica he is deluding himself. Seems to me he still hasn't answered all the questions about the dead women found in HIS office.

(9,494 posts)I would love to see their empty coffers at the end of the year and lots of broke gubernatorial candidates scattered across the country.

(81,093 posts)The only consolation I find in that is - this would be money they weren't planning or expecting to spend. And the more of that they have to shell out - the less they'll have, to spread around elsewhere. They'll have to hit up all those mega-donors and bundlers they meet with at those secret meeting in Palm Springs or wherever it might be - and THOSE folks, in turn, will ALSO have to ante up more than they expected. Granted, most of 'em have money to burn. But not everyone does. And farther down the food chain, the tea baggers with lesser bank accounts, will be forced to pick and choose more frequently.
I always applaud unexpected expenses hitting the other side. Divide (their money) and conquer!

(10,597 posts)... that is rich. Really, when is Christie just going to resign? I predicted he'd do it two weeks ago. Guess he's chosen to stay on till the bitter end, like when he's frog-marched out of the State House and crammed into the back of a State Police cruiser. They might need a paddie wagon to accommodate him.

It's their TURN.
