Encountered a teabagger today

I was filling my car with gas today when the attendant came by and struck up a conversation about how I was one the few who followed the signs and entered from the right direction. I mentioned another establishment didn't have problems getting people to enter from one direction. This led to him saying his employer wouldn't spend any money to control traffic, this led into his bashing his employer because they cut everyone's hours to avoid Obama are.

The next sentence out of his mouth gave him away. He said "he shouldn't be forced to buy healthcare."

Then I lost it! Really, I said, you are required to buy car insurance, why not healthcare? He said you don't have to buy car insurance but there was a penalty if you don't. I said yeah, ask the uninsured woman who hit me several months ago. I then said it was wrong that I have to carry uninsured motorist because people don't buy insurance, then before he could respond, I said, who do think pays for those who don't have health insurance -- ME! I pay for all of those ER visits through higher cost at the doctor, hospital and insurance.

He turned and walked away. Hopefully it soaked in. The stupid, it hurts!

3. Tea Baggers are too stupid to put two and two together.

Can't understand the repercussions of a gov. shut down.
Can't understand the science behind global warming.
Too late at night to go on and on but you get the idea.
They are just plain stupid!

4. How many employees worked at the gas station?

I thought it only applied if you had more than 50 employees

9. Exactly. Only 3% of small businesss have more than 50 employees.

Most of the small businesses (less than 500 employees) that the GOP always claims they are fighting for, are exempt. The ACA does not affect them at all. The ones that have 50 or more, that do not already have health insurance for their employees, SHOULD go out of business, IMO.

I am so tired of listening to conservatives whine about crap that isn't even true. I'm almost to the point of saying move them all to a reservation, and let them have a taste of the "freedom from government" that they think they would like.

6. My wife encountered a couple in a McDonald's drive-through

This has been a few months ago, but my wife was in a McDonald's drive through when a couple of TP types got behind her. Both our cars have Obama bumper stickers on them and a car with a couple of these idiots started yelling insults at her while she was getting her order. It frightened her.

Had I been there, the outcome would have been much different.

8. Cognitive dissonance.

It's a fancy term for a disconnect between what one thinks and what is reality.

Your guy could almost be a picture postcard for cognitive dissonance.

I simply do not understand why so many people think that having health care is so awful. And it's not as though those who think that way actually have the Republican Health Care Plan, by which I mean they never get sick. Often, those who oppose Obamacare, excuse me the ACA, themselves have all sorts of health issues. And whether they themselves have healthcare, be it Medicare, Medicaid, or whatever, they just don't get it that health care ought to be a fundamental right for all.

I'm one of the annoying ones who never gets sick, and I'm crazed by those who don't understand why health care for all is so important. I suppose I should complain that I've been paying into the system all these years and never gotten back even ten percent of what I paid in. But I don't see it that way. I know that my personal excellent health is some kind of a gift, and I should NEVER resent that others "cost me money".

On the other hand, I have a Geek Squad card for Best Buy, and I've used several multiples of whatever it cost me.

12. They are locked in to an ideology.

And though they know you are right, and see it, they cannot bring themselves to admit it.

It is similar to the Nazis in WW2, and the true believers could not admit the war was lost even as the Russian army entered the city...and even some of them killed themselves and their children to keep from admitting it was over....can't remember which one but his wife killed her children and said life without National Socialism was not worth living...

That is what we have here...and it comes from a constant bombardment of propaganda and conditioning...it is really sad.

You work, you're covered at NO cost to YOU.

Then he met the Kaiser and instead we got HMOs.

14. I seriously doubt that a gas station owner has enough employees to be forced to buy them

health insurance under the ACA.

Businesses with fewer than 50 employees are exempt from having to provide health insurance. However, as explained above, such smaller employers may opt to offer health insurance at a reasonable cost by participating in a SHOP exchange.

The boss is not being honest with his employees.

18. I never have liked employer based health insurance. It ties

a person down to a low paying dead end job. Do away with it and employers would have to pay better wages to keep employees from leaving.

23. "you are required to buy car insurance, why not healthcare"...

In what jurisdiction does one have to purchase auto insurance simply for owning an automobile which is not driven on a public road?

And....

Which commuters who ride a bike or take the subway to work and do not drive or own a car are required to purchase auto insurance?

Apples and oranges.

24. In this state you are required to sign a form when you register your vehicle that you have insurance

I would guess if you don't ever take a vehicle on the road, that you don't have to register it or buy insurance. And what does it have to do with commuters or bike riders?

25. Its fairly strait forward.

People who ride the trains, or ride a bike, and do not own an auto, are not required to buy car insurance.

To put a finer point on it, requiring the purchase of insurance for a choice which only some people make - that is driving - is not the same as requiring one to buy a service from a private entity simply for being alive.

As I said - apples and oranges.

27. It still cost me when you get sick and don't have insurance

Through higher medical expenses and consequently higher insurance premiums just like the uninsured motorist. That is how they do compare.

If you don't drive you don't figure in the equation but you are going to get sick, if not insured, those of us who are pay.

Medicare for all would be preferred, but that was killed by the right even before the teabaggers figured into the equation.

In the last 20 years, I have been sick numerous times without insurance.

Up to and including influenza not three weeks ago.

Guess how much it cost you, or anyone else, including myself.

Zip zero nadda.

Nothing can or will convince me that being compelled by force of law to buy a service from a private entity for simply being alive, is right proper or just.

And I'm not remotely alone in thinking that, here on DU or anywhere else.

29. And what happens when you get cancer?

Do you just die?

When your bills are more than you can pay, then you become a burden to the system and that will cost me. Every person who is insured, reduces the cost overall, lower doctors bills leading to lower insurance premiums.

That is sick!

When I get cancer?

My crystal ball doesn't work as well as yours apparently.

In any case, the ends, no matter how well meaning or benevolent, do not justify the means.

It may become clear to you why, a few years down the road, when the other party is in power, and leans hard on the precedent of being required to buy a product/service from a private entity simply for being alive.

26. We shouldn't have to buy health insurance.

It's completely insane that a company that provides zero medical care gets a skim of the money involved in health care.

Yes, the ACA is better than the nothing we had before, but it's still complete bullshit that insurance companies are still involved in health care in any way.
