Is it too soon to start lamenting the NSA Security State again? Or is that over now that we have

other faux crises on the tee vee? Just kinda wondering...I know we are all giddy at the prospects heading into 2014, so this topic is kind of the albatross of the decade that the PTB would rather we all forgot about whilst electioneering is underway...

.....unless, somehow, he outlives his usefulness to TPTB.....whenever that may be.

7. I'm still firmly opposed to it

I read a news article saying several senators are going to introduce bills to beef up privacy protections and put a leash on the NSA, so there has been positive developments.

11. Children failing to get nutrition assistance (a.k.a food) is a "faux" crisis...

...but the fantasy that someone might actually be so interested in the inane scribblings you wrote while sipping your $5 dollar soy-latte (comparing U.S. Signal Intelligence to the holocaust) that they'd actually look at it without your permission is a "real" one.

Gotcha.

12. No, the faux part is the Republicans pinning it on us. But, thanks for being one of the knee-jerk

reactionary community. Gotcha. (You must be part of the "clean-up" crew, that goes around deflecting on internet boards).

15. I doubt he is anything quite so interesting, simply a Conservative as advertised

That is the problem with conservatives in the party, they bring in all that Reagan and police state baggage with them and claim since it came in the party with THEM it is a valid view all of a sudden of the party.

Whose to say they're wrong? If we applaud the entrance of the Liebermans and Reaganites into the party, are they then not valid members with their views added to the party with them?

What will be really interesting is when we start inviting the Birchers as well and have to adopt their ideas as valid to go along with the trickle down economics and police state authoritarian worship, can't wait for them to join the ranks of the Reaganites in our party and add even more of these "good" right wing ideals.

I personally think we should have kept the party liberal and sewn shut the giant gaping hole in the tent that let these ideals replace our own, but I was not consulted when the Kochs helped form the DLC and PPI think tank to engineer our new improved ideology and so was told along with everybody else, "accept it 'cause what other party are you going to vote for".

Is it too late for a needle and thread now? Probably.

18. I really think our only hope for weeding out those types is 2020. We *have to get control for the

re-districting at that time. By then, maybe demographics shifts may be in our favor as well. Of course, a lot depends on how successful the fascists are at doing more damage in Michigan and Wisconsin, etc. Once they split up the unions and drove the Democrats out of the midwest, they have virtually grabbed control. Of course, then they stand around and say "where are the jobs?". We are so truly messed up right now that I doubt we will ever again be what I knew us as, not in my lifetime.

Guess not. No more than being some kind of Progressive or Liberal being a requirement for being a member of DU.

30. I think the Democratic Party actually occupies

the center-center left space. Because of our campaign funding system corporations have too much influence in the Party but the fact we want health care for all, want everyone to easily vote, prefer higher taxes on the wealthy to pay for more services for the poor and working class, want equal rights for the LGBT community puts us in the center - center/left position.

opinions can differ.

moonbat progressives. Why even bother, your profound "conservative Democrat" wisdom won't penetrate. Of course, you can always write some rants about those silly liberals and get a lot of attention that way I suppose.

28. It's simple. This is the DU. Not the Wingnut-U.

People are welcome to state that they dislike the U.S. having an intelligence service (though George Washington spent more than twice the percentage of his Federal budget on intelligence than we do today). But when they start throwing around the terms "Fascist" and claiming that well balanced programs supported by most Democratic electeds and overseen by the courts - are somehow much worse than "Faux" crises of children going physically hungry every night, then the Democrats who represent the non-wingnut side of the Democratic party feel obligated to step in.

Is #12 on this list.

Please try to start using reason and logic. It's one of the chief differentiators between Democrats and Republicans. (The other is that we're not run by our wingnuts, while they clearly are.)

19. It's not over, but...

We do kind of have other pressing matters to deal with. Lets get the government operational again and then continue the push for NSA reform.

Unless you just want the shutdown/debt ceiling/whatever the next repuke-manufactured crisis is to bring the whole freaking country down I suppose.

First you amputate the gangrenous limb, THEN you treat the long term cancer-- no?

...they're a little busy ensuring that the world economy crashes. Don't worry. They'll be back to reading your emails at the earliest opportunity.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...
