On The IRS Incident & Morning Joe Really Does Suck

No wonder the republicans do so well in these kind of things. They have a cable channel, Fox that goes to bat for the republicans no matter what they do.

This morning on MSNBC, Morning Joe, Chuck Toad was screaming for more democrats to be outraged about the IRS in targeting the Tea Party which can't say for sure, not enough info yet but I am not so sure they were strictly targeting the Tea Party. The IRS has always had to do a certain amount of profiling. This was during a time when the Tea Party was coming on strong & probably flooding the IRS with their request for tax exempt status. So how do you find out if an organization does have tax exempt status until you investigate it?

Also, the IRS has lost thousands of jobs with the cuts of federal employees the republicans have won & they have been strapped with everything. Also, if the Tea Party is claiming to be a Social Welfare Group to get their tax exempt status, they should be investigated. Whatever, this is not something that came from the White House but yet even MSNBC calling for the President to condemn this action of which I am sure he will when he knows for certain if it deserves such a condemnation.

For what this should show is why are all of the groups able to do their business in secret, not disclose who they are, who their donors are, in country or out of country & why should they even have tax exempt status. Maybe that is the bigger question that should be asked.

Also, would be nice if the Democrats had a news media outlet like faux who has Murdoch & his empire & now it looks like the Koch Bros is attempting to buy up huge newspaper chains themselves to further get the right-wing message out. To me that is what we should all be fearful of.

That said; Morning Joe Really Does Suck, I am absolutely done with that show, time to give Big Ed that slot.

3. Framing A "Narrative"...

...something the rushpublicans are always good at. It's almost like revisiting the Clinton era where Joey and his pals continued to gin up unfounded charges against Bill and Hillary...creating the impression of scandal that was broadcast far and wide on hate radio and the new cable channels like Faux. The game here is to spread rumor and innuendo which will spread around the political world before the truth and facts have a chance to catch up. Joey, Halperin, Lisa Myers and all the scandal hounds will scream about some massive conspiracy and the impression soon overshadows the reality.

First there's the endless Benghazi noise and now this "IRS scandal" that I'm sure will become major rushpublican talking points...spinning madly in the parallel universe and feeding into a corporate media that now sees its role as trying to turn President Obama into a lame duck...

7. Right Kharma & now is the time for the Democrats to definitly have a stragety session just for the

reasons you stated. Now is the time to go head to head on these two things. The IRS involved employees more than likely thinking they were doing their job which is verifying if these groups had tax exempt status, I bet there were some groups on the democratic side as well. There probably is a reason there were so many more republican groups & there were a bunch of tea party groups that all came about after President Obama got elected.

With this & Benghazi they the Dems better get their act together & get ready to go to battle, we don't have the media like the right does.

5. I think it's all an attempt to distract

The Republicons don't want people to really take a hard look at what they're doing, so they trump up crap and repeat it over and over again to make it seem like there's something there when there isn't.

They don't want people to ask, "Where are the jobs you promised?" or "Why are we cutting when we should be spending to grow the economy? Austerity measures have been bad in other countries, why are we doing the same thing here? Did we learn nothing from the Great Depression?"

There's so much more:

- Women's health rights
- Worker's rights
- Infrastructure decay
- Voting rights
- Wasting time and money on Obamacare
- Ignoring the people responsible for the economic collapse in 2008
- Ignoring the lies of Bushco that led to the wars in the Middle East
- Corporate welfare for the world's biggest corporations
- Tax laws that benefit the wealthiest while harming those with very little

The list just goes on and on. The right wing media has a lot more coverage than the left, and the right wants people to believe they are in the minority when in fact they are the vast majority.

I completely agree that Mourning Joe is a waste of time, and would love to see Ed Schultz in that time slot.

8. Andy, that list you gave from women's health rights & on down is the reason the Dems need to jump

right in & go to battle on this. I sure don't want to see a horrible beating in 2014 & can't imagine the horror if the republicans got the White House & more Supreme Court appointments. There are a lot of Federal Judges to appoint as well because they block every appointment the President tries to make.

6. I thought I read that due to budget cuts...

a section of the IRS was eliminated that would oversea this kind of thing and would make sure this type of targeting didn't happen.

9. I bet you are right, there were thousands of federal jobs that got cut due to the republicans.

In fact don't know if this is what you were talking about but would fit I think.

10. It is inside this article.

"The IRS also eliminated an automatic after-the-fact review process Washington used to conduct such determinations."

They talk about this but do not give the reason the unit was eliminated. I am reading between the lines.

13. Heleman was trying to talk about abuse of 501(c)(4) organizations' tax status when

they are really "political action" arms of a 501(c)(3) organizations but Joe quickly cut him off. Someone else on the panel tried to talk about it, too, and Joe shot him down as well. He didn't want to talk about THAT and we all know why...

16. Karl Bernstein was on the show too

and he was making a lot of sense. Joe was very rude and cut him off frequently. Joe only wants to see his point of view confirmed by his guests. He was SO excited to have some kind of dirt to throw at the Democrats on a Monday morning.

I remember the Bush years when there were several scandals and outrages every week, but now its like they never happened.

14. How can they claim the Tea Party is neutral enough for tax exempt status?

It should be flagged. They are not supposed to be putting forth a political viewpoint. That's why we get mad the churches have it when the ministers exhort the congregation to vote Republican.

What are they being flagged for, if it is application for tax exempt status, there is nothing wrong with it. Tax exempt status is not for political entities.

17. I worked my entire career for nonprofit organizations and the rules were very clear about

what was (c)(3) activity and what was (c)(4) activity. Since I was a Development Director I had to know the difference and make it clear to donors which side they were giving to, for tax purposes.
